Message from Stephenie about Breaking Dawn & Copyright Issues

Stephenie updated her myspace blog today with the following message:
“Copyright issues
Current mood: jediAs some of you may have noticed, many people who have typed out or scanned either the entire books, portions of the books or first chapter of Breaking Dawn have received (or should be receiving) a message from their hosting companies that notices were sent from my publisher to take the content down. I know people are eager to share their excitement about my books, which I love, but you may not be aware that making portions of the book available for download is violating my copyright (unless you have written permission from me or my publisher). Quoting a sentence or two is fine, but anything beyond that is in violation of copyright. Basically, copyright gives an author control over where, when and how her work is made available to the public. This exists to protect the author and her work – a lot of effort has been put into creating these books for you to enjoy — so I hope people cooperate in respecting the copyright for all my novels.
Thanks!”

Dear Stephenie,
Well, I don’t know what to say. I have fallen for your books as both a writer myself and as a mother of daughters ages 19,20,21 & 22. I wanted to share with others about the experience that led me to read a book about vampires, because my father is a mortician, and I know how blood gets drained from a body. It disgusts me. However, your books did much more for me than give me excitement and something to look forward to. It saved my life. Nor figuratively, but really. I have been for eight years on the verge of my own personal apostacy. God performed a miracle through your books. The trail was long and winding but the catalyst that broke through to the depths to which my soul had sunk came in Eclipse which reads: “You know that story in the Bible?” Jacob asked suddenly, still reading the blank ceiling. “The one with the king and the two women fighting over the baby?” “Sure. King Solomon.” Well that is as far as I have read in the book. I can’t go any further. For now. When those words were read, my own life changed in such a way that for the first time in eight years, I knew that God loved me. More than just saying the words, actually knowing it with every cell of my body. I am, if you’ll pardon the too often used phrase, eternally gratefull. Your books brought something that was taken away from me with the first episode of violent abuse so many years ago, back into my life. Thank you for the miracle that your books were and are to me. Every person around me has noticed the change. Euphoric doesn’t begin to describe it.
May the Lord always be your friend.
