Chris Weitz on casting the pack

Posted on 21. Apr, 2009 by in News

Director Chris Weitz talked with USA Today about the thousands of hopefuls he saw over the span of several months to cast the wolf pack in New Moon:

No. 1 on the list: Native American or First Nation ancestry, because their characters belong to the Quileute tribe, based in La Push, Wash., both in the book and in real life.

“They had to have papers that proved their heritage,” says director Chris Weitz, who was the one who insisted on hiring within the community. “And they had to be in good physical shape.”

What do you all think, did they meet both qualifications?

I personally am really glad that Chris sought out American Indians for the roles. I am very excited about the pack casting – especially after seeing the pics!

I think they definitely fit both qualifications! I’m thrilled that Chris was so adamant that the Wolves be cast with authentic ancestry. It shows that he truly cares about these characters.

I agree with you guys. I’m very glad CW choose actors who’s ancestry is authentic for their roles. I think that says something about him and his passion to get the movie right.

I think Chris did it correctly. Only fair to have American Indian descent for the wolf pack. Cant wait to see this movie. I really believe Chris will do a great job.

It’s really awesome that they have native americans in the roles, but what about Taylor? I haven’t heard anything about his heritage, not that I want them to replace him! Team Switzerland! Leaning towards team Jacob in the movie saga.
