Edward Cullen or Robert Pattinson?

Posted on 06. Apr, 2009 by in News

In an interview with Teen Vogue Miley Cyrus made the following statement-

“I’m not a huge Rob Pattinson fan. Girls aren’t really in love with Rob; they’re in love with Edward.”

I’m not posting this so that we can have a Miley bash-fest… her comment has brought up a valid question.  Are you a fan of Edward, Robert or both?  This is a topic that can be very polarizing.  Even among the TwilightMOMS admin team we have very varying opinions.  I’ll be brave and go out on a limb and say that I’m not a huge RPattz fan (ducks flying tomatoes) BUT I think he did a fabulous job as Edward.  Where do you stand on the Edward vs. Robert argument?  Let us know!!

(please, please, please be respectful of others opinions!)

The TWILIGHT series was such a good read.I have read the series a few times.I really didn’t think anyone could measure up to Edward’s character and was not going to see the movie but my grandaughter talked me into it.Rob Pattinson as well as the rest of the cast Fit the mold perfectly. This movie entertained & charmed us all & if we look we will find a little Edward in those we love in real life.As far as Rob himself ,I am going to keep up with what is going on with him.I think he is really something, someone who is on his way up.And for Miley, maybe some things come out the wrong way & are blown way out of how they were really meant. Thanks to all involved in TWILIGHT for entertaining us,that’s what is about isn’t it?

I guess I am an Edward girl. But because I watched the movie before I read the books, the face of Edward, for me anyway, is Rob. In the interviews I’ve seen of Rob, he seems very genuine to who he is as a person and I don’t think there is anything more attractive than that!

Let’s be real here….Edward is well….the antithesis of what any woman young or old would want. He’s got everything intelligence, patience, passion, unconditional-obsessive love, a moral fiber, and great looks! That is why he is a fictional character. Stephanie Meyer does a phenomenal job creating this story…a fantasy for most women…because it could never be real. It only works because he is a vampire. If he were human….he wouldn’t be Edward and the story wouldn’t work.
Now, Rob Pattinson….do not know him in any way….simply what I’ve seen in interviews. I do think he’s definitely an actor we’re going to see around for many years. He is choosing some diverse roles, I like this . He “appears” to be quite genuine and “quirky”. If he were my younger brother(yes..as I am 14 years his senior), I’d probably tell him to hang in there with all the hype, stay grounded, surround yourself with people who knew you before you were involved in Twilight, enjoy it and don’t be too hard on yourself. I hope to see more of his acting in the future. (Well and it doesn’t hurt to look at him either!)

I LOVE Edward- but then, who couldn’t? Its not that I don’t like Rob, but he had to play up to expectations, and i don’t think that would be easy to do! I can not imagine anyone else as Edward, though.

Rob is very talented and brought the character of Edward to life. It is no wonder he has so many screaming girls everywhere he goes. They can’t disconnect. I wish everyone would remember that he is a person who no doubt prefers a certain amount of privacy and that the papparazzi would just lay off. As for the character of Edward, he is a dream, almost to perfect for reality, but there is a little Edward in the ones we love. I would absolutely love to hear Rob do more music, he is amazing.

I saw the movie first, so I first fell in love with Rob’s face, as well as Edward’s character. I have since read all the the books, and have started the series over again. It is hard for me to imagine Edward as anything other than Rob. I am a HUGE HUGE HUGE lover of Edward, but after reading some interviews and listening to some of Rob’s music, I’d have to say I’m a huge fan of him as well. They are both lovely:)

To be honest with you I adore the character of Edward Cullen. He is a modern day gentleman with a genuine heart of gold and that almost doesn’t exist anymore. However, he is just a character, but does make for some great dreams:) Rob Pattinson would be my chose between the two though. Rob’s acting talent is what brought Edward to life (wonderful actor and yes he will definitely be around for many years to come); in interviews and from other things I have read about him he still seems to be a genuinely nice guy and remembers where he came from (which is so rare in any age star these days); but the best (and sexiest thing to me at least) about Rob is that musical talent! I have been playing some sort of instrument and singing since I was 8 (violin, piano, etc.) and to see someone who loves his craft, is so effortless at being good at it and who loves working at it, that to me is one of the sexiest things around. Very few guys do music just because they like it and are good at it (most do it for glory, girls and money) and to me when that is found that is talent, intelligence, humbleness and confidence all rolled in to one and what in the world is sexier than that?! And yes he is definitely nice to look at:)

I don’t know much about Robert Pattinson, other than he appears somewhat socially awkward in various interviews, but I didn’t like his portrayal of Edward Cullen at all. I suppose I had Edward on such a high platform that Robert had little chance to achieve any level of success. Still, I think the book version of Edward Cullen is the one I like, and Robert Pattinson is not hated, just not the one I’d choose.

well i am a huge fan of Edward Cullen because he did a awesome job. and i love VAMPIRES their so cool but then again i am in love with Robert Pattinson. And i mean there equal to my point of veiw because i know ALOT about both but i know every single word to TWILIGHT to so…… he is the same person but everybody has got to understand it is called acting. but we all wish there was a guy/boy like Edward Cullen at our schools……… I love Edward Cullen/Robert Pattinson:-)

well.. the way I look at it is that you can’t really love one and not the other. Edward is so “HOT” and so is Robert. The sensitive side of Edward attracts ladies whatever their ages. And Robert just screams “bad boy”. So, no pun intended but I suppose they’re the Best of Both Worlds.

      15. Apr, 2009

I have to agree with you whole-heartedly here. That ‘bad boy’ image mixed with Edward’s confidence in all that he does except when it comes to Bella is so becoming … how can anyone not be enticed when faced with that

I absolutely love both of them..I have not seen Twilight because I am finishing the book first..but I can’t wait to see the movie..My 14 year old daughter got me interested in the Twilight series. She has all of the books and the movie and she will not let me watch the movie until I have read the book..LOL..but I have seen the trailers and am mesmerized by Robert’s portrayal of Edward and Kristen’s portrayal of Bella..I am 44 years old and never thought I would love this series so much…Twilight 4-ever!!!

I love Edward Cullen. I don’t know if a human male is in existence that could compare to him. I think he’s every woman’s(no matter the age) ideal. He’s smart, cultured, compassionate, loving, generous and let’s not forget good looking. He’s got the bad boy edge, that most women love. I’ve seen the movie several times and am now in the process of devouring the books. I had not seen Rob’s work before this move, but could not imagine any one else playing him.

Stephenie Meyer did a superb job of creating the character of Edward Cullen. It was also a special treat to see Edward’s personality even more fully defined when reading from his perspective in Midnight Sun. I love the series, have reread it many times, have sent copies of the books to friends around the country , seen the movie many many times, listen to the CD in the car and feel like I must be Edward Cullen/Robert Pattinson’s biggest fan.

Robert Pattinson did a masterful job of portraying a very complex character in a very limited 2-hour movie. He set the stage for New Moon and the other sequels to set even more records than Twilight did. He seems to be a wonderful, grounded young man, too with lots of success ahead of him. Btw, his photo is on my PC screensaver and phone. Hmmm…too bad I’m already a 50s married mom with two teens! I’d love to meet the cast…and wish I could talk with Ms. Meyer about her wonderful character creations…she is a genius! It was just by sheer coincidence that I bought the first Twilight book for my kids as we were heading out on vacation to Washington State last June 8!!! We all read the whole series!! Thanks! Pat C. (No, it doesn’t stand for Cullen…wishful thinking, Ha!)

    15. Apr, 2009

This statement has gotten Miley a lot of bad press, but I think we all take it out of context. She was simply stating a fact. There wouldn’t be love for Rob if he weren’t Edward. If it were another actor cast in the role, that actor would have become the object of so much affection. However, it seems we are all in agreement, that this fact doesn’t dimish our new found love for Robert Pattinson. *sigh* He has allowed us to put a face to Edward. While we will always love our Edward, we all have now found love for Rob. Any Harry Potter fan would remember the character that Rob played, but not many remember Rob. People knew Leonardo DiCaprio before Titanic, but “Jack” made him famous.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the Twilight series because I had heard that they were written for a younger crowd (I am 33). I think a guy as perfect as Edward Cullen cannot exist, but Rob Pattinson did a great job. He looks a lot like how I had pictured Edward, and his acting skills were pretty good. Kristen Stewart also played a great Bella. As for Miley Cyrus’s comments, I think a lot of people care more about Hannah Montana than they do about Miley…with that being said, I will sign off and try not to make this a Miley-bashing post!

I love Edward Cullen, Rob…not so much. They’re one person yet so different. It’s Edward’s character and personality I love better than Robert Pattinson himself, so warm and so mature. A perfect guy in every way any other women could ask for. And Edward is better looking in the movie than Rob’s rugged look in real life.

i fall in love with all the characters he plays. he gets way into them. i swooned when he played daniel gale in the bad mothers handbook. so i have to say that i love rob pattinson. he’s a talented actor. the fact that he’s super hot is just a bonus. and he seems pretty sweet when he goes out in plublic.

I watched the movie before reading the books so I pictured Rob Pattinson as Edward, which was fine with me as I think Rob is an absolute doll! I think he did a great job with a difficult role. He could have gone over the top, but was right on in my opinion. I cannot picture another actor doing this role, can you? It needed someone young, fresh, quirky, talented, and very, very sexy. The kissing scene took by breath away…anyway, I’m for Rob Pattinson all the way and I hope to see him in other things very soon, please!

I am a huge Robert Pattinson fan. I loved him as Cedric Diggory and knew he had the talent to go places. I drove over 45 miles to see him in the movie “How to Be” and was just as impressed. His acting ability is amongst the best in the movie world. He certainly has the talent to become a legendary movie star, but he does need to remain grounded and stay sweet and approachable.

As far as Edward, who wouldn’t love him. I’ve read the Twilight books over and over for the past three years, and I never get enough of Edward. He is every woman’s dream, but he also is a fictional character, so Robert as Edward is the best possible comparison.

As a fan of both, I still have to select Rob as the one who deserves my admiration!

Reality over fantasy any day. Rob’s adorable. Would love to see him make a piano cd as well as a cd of his guitar songs whenever he feels it’s a good time to. His dog is as adorable as he is also! Looking forward to New Moon and Little Ashes. He’s hit it big. I hope he enjoys the ride as long as he wants it. Don’t believe the crap that’s put out there. None of the negative stories or stories of him being hurt on set are ever true.

I would have to say I’m a Rob fan for sure because his talent goes so far beyone the character of Edward. ~ Yes Edward is charming, but HELLO? He’s a vampire…get with the program – Rob is real – and also charming. So I would def have to say Robert over Edward any day…

Lets face it, Edward is the ultimate fantasty that all women around the world dream about. He is sexy, caring, says the things that we need him to say and much much more… Robert Pattinson, potrays the role so wonderfully that you cant help but picture his face when you are reading Edwards words…So I guess I would have to say that I am a fan of both Edward and Robert …

hmpf! i thought this for a while and now i realized that i’m not inlove with ROBERT PATTINSON, rather, i love him being EDWARD CULLEN. YEAH, i’m a big fan of RPATZZ too, but i just like him when he’s Edward and only EDWARD. Rob is nice, lovable and down-to-earth and one thing that made me crazy about him is how he act, how he portray EDWARD in a perfect manner (dangerous-but-handsome-but-seductive-but-angelic). But if i’m to ask who i love most? it’s probably Edward Cullen, coz he’s my dream man, my vampire-angel.

    I LIKE ROBERT PATTINSON

    but…

    I LOVE EDWARD CULLEN

I am a huge fan of both Edward and Rob. The character Edward is so otherworldly and a gentleman taken out of time. I saw the film before I read the books so now Edward will forever have Rob’s face.
I also like the actor himself, especially his musical talent. His voice is so gravelly and sexy and he plays the type of music that is my natural preference too. I just hope that he remains as humble as he appears to be now.

Well, I bought the movie and the first two books all at the same time. I watched the movie First. I love the Edward Character, everyone does, but after falling in love with the books I decided to go to Stephanie Meyers webpage. This led me on a trail of Rob and who he is in Real life. I found a bunch of his music and fell in love with his voice. He’s obviously easy on the eyes, but that Voice. Great Googly Moogly! I find Rob very interesting. He makes me smile just watching the little smirks that he makes. I think he’s a very genuine, down to earth person. So I would have to say I am obsessed with both of them. By the way, have you guys noticed how many Fake Rob myspace pages there are out there? I mean Jesus! I finally gave up on trying to find him, I imagine he gets completely bombarded by girls anyway. Thanks you guys for this site!

The Edward Cullen character, that Stephanie developed, is what I would call almost perfect. I cannot remember enjoying a literary character quite as much as Edward Cullen. My long-time affair with the works of Shelley and Browning have always provided me with that infusion of passion which feeds the soul. Edward embodies many of those idealistic qualities of love that women just crave.

I believe that Robert Pattinson brings to life the Edward character wonderfully. He is also a very nice looking man. :)

Edward is every womans dream hence the fact he is a character in a story book.
Robert Pattinson is a great actor and therefore brought our Edward to Life however i don’t think there is a man alive who could live upto the image of Edward that i had in my mind after reading The Twilight saga so i am 100% sure that it is the fictional character that holds my attention and devotion while Rob is nice to look at and i am glad that it is him who has the role of my dream man he still doesn’t quiet meet my expectations of Edward but i have found a new found love of Rob and him as a person and actor so big round of applause to Rob for being a great Edward and bringing the Character to life but again there is not a man alive who could furfill the vision of Edward that lives in my heart and mind.

Robert Pattinson is the most incredible, beautiful, perfect choice they could have made to portray Edward. I would venture to say that it is a given that the majority of us here at twilightmoms love Edward. Stephenie did such an amazingly wonderful job creating the perfect man that is Edward, that it is nearly impossible not to love this fictional vampire.

I believe that Robert Pattinson did an absolutely amazing job portraying the Edward that we have all grown to love. I could not imagine anyone else playing Edward so perfectly.

How anyone could not love both the character and the young man who plays him is beyond me. I adore them both. While the Twilight saga is over and I am afraid we will never again have a new story to spend more time with Edward, I sincerely hope that Robert’s career extends past his role as Edward. He seems to have great potential and I look forward to seeing his abilities grow throughout the years to come.

I can’t seem to separate Edward and Robert. I feel there has to be some of Edward in Robert however little that part is. I feel like I too stumbled upon these books and I can’t imagine my life without them. I can’t even begin to say what these books have meant to me and how much enjoyment I have had reading them. It makes you believe that love really is out there and love will win no matter the odds. Edward/Robert brought romance back to so many of us! Stephenie Meyers is a brillant writer and I can’t thank her enough. I too feel that Robert has just scratched the surface of his potential and we hopefully are going to see a lot of things from him. Movies, his music – his voice is so great and he makes a piano sing!! I think he could play just about anything. He is so believable. I thought he did a wonderful job protraying Edward. I too saw the movie first but bought twilight on my way home and read half the book that first night. I can’t imagine anyone else playing this part. His eyes, his smile, he is just the total package and I too am in my 50′s with children older than he is and they remind me of that constantly!!! But it is fun to watch this movie and it is fun to read these wonderful books and it has brought a lot of happiness to my life. I cry everytime I see the prom scene – it is just so beautiful. I wish so badly Stephenie would finish Midnight Sun. For us that love Edward, we want to know what he is thinking – I hope she has a change of heart for all her many fans and finishes the book. So – I guess if I had to chose it would be 51% Edward and 49% Robert but I truly love them both!!!

I’ve fallen in love with Edward Cullen. A totally ridiculous that at my age I would find my thoughts and dreams consumed with a fictional character. To me he embodies the best qualities of fictional characters; making him, invariably, a dangerous to real men.

He has the loyalty, commitment to responsibility, and quiet aloofness of Mr. Rochester. The feel of James Dean in his portrayal of Jim Stark in “Rebel Without A Cause”. Marlon Brando’s demeanor in “A Street Car Named Desire” The protective streak of Maxim DeWinter and of course the sadness and tenderness of Louie in “Interview with a Vampire”.

In creating this extraordinary character, Stephanie Meyers has stripped a women’s essence until she is emotionally raw. She has paraded our vulnerable and with a jolt she has awakened dreams, secrets, long forgotten wounds and unfulfilled desires. She has held a mirror to our secret retreats. These retreats allow us to fortify our souls. Here we can be free from the demands of what “others” expect of us. In that world we are not Mothers, Friends, Husbands, Fathers, Daughters or Sons etc. We are limitless! Great writers have drawn reader’s to their own emotional isolation and thrown written darts when they hit a bulls eye. Meyers has taken this character and carried him to the next level.

Sigh.. it must be really tough right now to be a man!

Miley Cyrus, as annoying as any 16 (?) year old can be.. it right.

I would have to say I would pick Robert over Edward any day. I saw the movie before I read the book, I didn’t think I could finish one let alone all 4 and Midnight Sun 3 times, I’m very busy but who needs sleep anyway.
Robert seams to be just like you or me just sucked into this crazy job. He seams so humble as well as overwhelmed, I just want to help him. I am so taken by his music talents. I could listen to him any time day or night.
As for Edward you would have to be dead to not want him, he is what we all grow up hoping to find. For the lucky ones they find parts of him and live happly ever after!! But Edward is only in our books, so we will read them over and over and over again. I too hope we get to read a compleat hard cover copy of Midnight Sun. My collection is some what empty.

    21. Apr, 2009

I read the books first before seeing the movie, so I was already drawn to Edward and in my mind no actor would be able to fill that part. I was wrong, Rob has done an excellent job as Edward Cullen and I think even if he were to be in every scene it would still leave me wanting more. So, I like them both. Obviously as everyone has stated already Edward is the perfect man. The thing that mainly attracts me to Rob is his vulnerability and shyness. When I see him in interviews he appears to be a nervous wreck and I love that about him! (probably because I would probably act the same way in the spotlight) Oh, and he is ruggedly handsome – thank goodness he is of legal age or I would be worried about myself… LOL

To be honest I didn’t know who Robert was until Twilight came out and I watched the movie. Yes “Edward” is mostly every woman’s fantasy man. He is protective, strong, mysterious, romantic, sexy, etc etc etc…..But after watching the movie I “Googled” Rob and I must say he is definitely my absolute favorite. He seems so genuine and real, unlike many other actors these days. He is funny and silly sometimes..;) It’s all very attractive. He is probably 100% opposite of Edward but that doesn’t make him any less in my eyes. Edward is something that is not real, something we can’t have. That is one of the things that makes it so addictive and why so many women want him. But Robert is REAL. He is PERFECT in my eyes. I love his accent, his music is amazing, he is a great actor, he is funny, humble, innocent almost, he is just indescribable! I honestly think he is God’s FINEST creation..;) And I hope he reads this someday!..;) If he does…DON’T CHANGE!!! Always be yourself and don’t get caught up in the celebrity world of drugs, rehab, cockiness, and out of control life style. I also feel I can relate to him, I have a history of panic disorder and I have heard him mention on more than one interview that he frequently gets panic attacks before going on stage, interviews, etc with all the people screaming. I know that would be almost impossible for me to do yet he does it for his fans and he does such a great job at it too. I now feel so bad when I see him in an interview and there are tons of people screaming at him it makes me want to tell them all SHUT UP…lol..Leave poor Rob alone..;) I would really try to compose myself if I ever did meet him and try to give him that respect although it would be quite hard cause what I would really be thinking is how I would want to…well that’s pretty explicit so I will leave those thoughts to myself..:) LOL…Ok well Happy Birthday Rob we are both Taurus’s Love YOU not just Edward!!!!!!!!

Rob is the face of Edward and I think he was the right choice for Edward, but we will never know Robert the
same way we know the character of Edward. He too is something we can’t have.

I love EDWARD! If my husband could take a few tips from Edward it would be wonderful. I saw the movie first so when I am reading I see Rob’s face but it is Edward that makes me swoon. In Breaking Dawn there are some places where I think Rob is going to have to beef up for the role if they do a movie because I see a stronger more built Edward like when she goes to meet him for a midnight swim the face is Rob but the body is between Rob and Kellan.
