David Slade on the Twilight Saga

Posted on 04. May, 2009 by in News

You know those moments in life where you wish you go back in time and not say whatever it is you’ve said that you regret?  Well, this is one of those moments for David Slade.  /Film has an article about Davids deleted Twitter account that once contained a rant about Twilight.  Sadly deleting the Twitter account didn’t even destroy the evidence- there is audio evidence as well.  You can listen to the interview and read the transcript here.   Here’s a little preview~

Twilight drunk? No, not even drunk. Twilight on acid? No, not even on acid? Twilight at gun point? Just shoot me.”

[That’s like] a poem in a way [...] at this point excites me even though people think I’m a really violent and unpleasant person I actually do have this romantic violent side to me. Maybe I should have seen Twilight.

Oops!

Is that really his comment? I really hope not, as I was not psyched about this pick. I wanted the director who studied under Guillermo del Toro.

If that is is comment, why would Summit chose someone who doesn’t 100% believe in the project?

I really don’t know anything at all about this director. Sounds like it is true what he said. Can you send the people who matter this sound bite. If he really thought this, then he shouldn’t be on for Eclipse.

Man, what an idiot. Is he really that clueless? The fans have to put up with enough insults from Twi-haters; why oh why did Summit hire one to direct Eclipse? The fans will tear him apart. He better fix this and fast…or maybe Summit should find a new director…someone who has actually seen the first movie, read the books, and LIKES them, or better yet, LOVES them.

This teaches you… Everybody is for sale, for the right amount of money! And how lame whas the attempt to erase the evidence??
Just get somebody who really likes the project!!!

I couldn’t agree with Midwest Mom more! Summit needs to go with someone who LOVES the series, or the movie will not work. David Slade has no business coming near the Twilight series!! His other two movies I hear were terrible, and if he gets his hands on Eclipse…. what a sad day that will be. Yes, there is some great action in Eclipse but the romance has to be done right, by someone who can do it — obviously not Slade based on his comments.

Nice job Summit!!! Time to fix the mistake, and I mean the original mistake of hiring this guy!!! The fans will take action, or lack of action, when a David Slade-directed Eclipse comes out.

It’s obvious to me (and I’m sure others too) that Summit picked the wrong director for Eclipse. How dare they pick someone who did not have a love for the books or the Twilight movie! I’m hoping that all the bad publicity that David gets about his nasty comments will make him publically “step down” as director for this movie. Shame on you David! You seem to be a “Twilight hater” yourself!

And this is who is going to be directing Eclipse? What in the world? To be true to the series you need to embrace it, not make fun of it. I wonder what Summit thinks of this? He should at least have to own up to what he said and clarify the “misunderstanding” that I am sure it will be called, even though we all know that he is just upset b/c Twilight rocked it when it opened.

The more I hear about this guy, the less I like him and the more I think Summit made a huge mistake.

Yes, I guess money talks. What a sell-out, but what else is new for Hollywood. Summit couldn’t do better than him? He probably wasn’t vetted well enough. How embarrassing for Summit but after Twilight and all the money they made, they probably don’t care either.

The Twilight Lexicon has many similar comments to this story. Comment #100 provides a quick generic letter that we should all send to Summit.

Okay…what do we now need to do to make sure Summit hears us and fires this man? They got it more than wrong when they hired him….and they need to fix it.

OME, is this guy for real. It seems money does indeed talk. Summit need to rectify this before he starts directing Eclipse. The fans do not want to see a Twi hater direct one of our beloved story’s. I agree with Kendra, at the very least he needs to make a public apology and reassure the fans that he will make Eclipse a movie will will all want to go and see. Sort it out Summit

Just a note about online petitions- they are pretty much ignored by companies such as Summit. Your best bet in making an impact with Summit is to write them a letter and mail it to-
      Summit Entertainment
      1630 Stewart Street
      Santa Monica, CA 90404

Okay, Really? That’s unreal. Why would we, as the huge followers we are, even want him to direct Eclipse?
I don’t even want him to direct it now. His heart won’t be in it. Maybe would could start a petition and find a way to send it to Summit Entertainment. We are the ones these movies are for right? We should be able to make enough of an out cry to atleast make them stand up and take notice, right? If not to Summit, maybe a news place like ET or something.

Well this is disappointng! I really hope it wasn’t him that made those comments, because let’s face it this is the internet, but still if he did he should totally have to own up to it or he will have to face the rath that is the TWILIGHT MOMS!!!

How disappointing! Eclipse deserves a director who loves the books as much as we do!

I signed the petition at the link in “cullenalice96″‘s comment…

    So sad…
I love Eclipse. It is my favorite book and the love triangle in this book is so intense. I am skeptical he can pull it off. It will probably be a big vampire bloodbath. These books deserve a director with class!

Obviously Slade has no respect for the Twilight Saga or the Demo who loves it. I am sure he also does not understand that Twilight represents a genre never before done by Hollywood, a movie where the female audience actually relates to the average girl heroine and enjoys ogling the hot male characters. Too bad, You have to wonder why Summit was willing to leave money on the table by producing a disappointing movie. Or maybe they are going to dump the demo that made Twilight and aim Eclipse at the arrested adolescent male audience along with 95% of all Hollywood movies.

Wow! What an idiot! I was really disapointed when summit chose Slade to direct Eclipse and this just confirms that he is the WRONG director for Eclipse or any of the other Twilight movies! Summit shoud really reconsidet this choice!

wow…….. Eclipse was my favorite book too. I wonder if Summit was aware of Slades feelings before they signed him to film the movie. Maybe it’s not too late. Oh man I’m so disappointed.
