Justin Guarini’s New Moon Song
Posted on 03. May, 2009 by AmyO in News
Justin Guarini, who placed second place on the first season of American Idol, has written a song he hopes will make it on the New Moon Soundtrack.
Here’s a song that Tammy Hyler, Shaye Smith, and I wrote specifically for “New Moon”. I’ve set it to some stills, and slapped my vocals on it. If you like it, make sure to spread the word and ask Stephenie Meyer to put it on the soundtrack – JG
What do you all think? Do you like it? Do you think it should be on the soundtack?

Not a bad song. Reminscent of Decode, I think, from the first soundtrack. I kind of think they should have saved Decode for this movie actually.

I really enjoyed this song. It does fit New Moon perfectly.

I think it is a really good song and I think it would be a good song for the New Moon soundtrack. They should put it on the soundtrack.

You’ve got to be kidding me. That’s all I have to say.

I have always loved Justin. This song is great also. They should put it on the soundtrack.

The song has the perfect words, however I personally might choose a different singer…just my personal opionion

I have to agree, the singer needs a little more edge to his voice to make the song right for new moon.

Hate it, just not a Twilight Saga type song, maybe something from Adam Lambert would be way better — he def. would kick some but with the style of music for the movie.

Definitely has possibilities. Needs a female voice, softer vocals, a less frenetic tempo.

no I dont think it belongs…not edgy enough…chorus part is too repetitive..doesnt really fit what I think Stephenie M would choose….top layer electric guitar is massive cheese
I hope Paramore has another track for New Moon and of course I hope they dont pass up Rob P for another cool song – how could they not!!

I agree, needs a female singer, and a different tempo. But I do believe every Twilight fan will swoon to the words!
I think New Moon will have a lot more sad/sappy songs on the sound track….it makes sense…..who wants to rock out to a broken heart?
LOVE this website…thank you for keeping it up!

Great song. I agree it might be better with another singer, maybe female, to make it sound like it goes from Bella. Could possibly play it as she searches for Edward in the wood after he leaves? Or as the months go by? Should definiately be used though.
I didn’t like any of Justin’s stuff before but have to say Way to Go JUSTIN!!!

Nothing against Justin, but this song does absolutely nothing for me. It’s actually kind of boring. New Moon needs songs that move your soul. I have no idea at the moment what those could be but, they need to do what the songs from Twilight did for me. They struck a chord. Especially the songs by the Black Ghosts, Radio Head and Rob Pattinson.
No to Justin
04. May, 2009
ABSOLUTELY NOT.
This is clearly a desperate and shameless attempt on Justin’s part to take advantage of a successful project and to gain international fame. The song is ok, but it’s not good enough for the soundtrack. And the way that this song is being presented should be a heads up to Summit that this song can’t be used due to exposure before the film is released. What I loved about the soundtrack is that I never heard any of those songs before I watched the film. And this sad attempt that Justin is making would make me lose respect for whoever’s in charge of dealing with the soundtrack.
ABSOLUTELY NO NO NO to Justin.

It’s OK…..but Justin? Really? No Muse, no Blue October or Coldplay, but Justin from American Idol and Justin + Kelly? Can’t do it guys, sorry.

Yuck. From the lack of range to the yelling instead of singing, it was really just plain bad, in my opinion.

Wow! I love the song. It would be really great for when I run on the treadmill.
That said, I totally don’t see it being something that would fit into a Stephenie Meyer playlist. Maybe the ending credits?
JG is not alternative and I agree definitely not edgy enough. Trying too hard!
Great stills though. I have not seen some of this pics. There’s a black and white of K&R hugging (R’s head in K’s lap and K folded over R). So beautiful. That must have been for the VF shoot.

I think the song is Okay, but not really for “New Moon”. I agree with “no to justin” I never heard the songs on the “Twilight” soundtrack and love every one of them. I am inpressed with the pictures choosen for the video, some of them with Rob and Kristen are really good, I’ve never seen them before. Kind of wonder where they came from? You do have a GREAT! site, always updated with great material, and all of you are great about keeping us updated. Thanks and Great Job.

I loved it-it has the same kind of feel of the songs on the Twilight soundtrack and captures the mood of New Moon.

No…this song reminds me of “Turn on your heart-light” that was written as a tribute to the movie ET! Remember that? It took lines from the movie and set them to music – cheesy. (“…Turn on your Heart Light, don’t wake me up too soon, let’s take a ride across the moon…” and, “…’I'll be right here’ if you should call me…’)
Let’s have lyrics that give us the sense of the story and emotions without plagiarizing SM’s lines!!

I’m surprised by how many ‘thumbs up’ the commenters gave, and I’m RELIEVED to see a plethora of “heck no” to this song.
The song feels so mainstream, the quality destined more for High School Musical – literal, simple, teen-appealing. I thought most of the music on the Twilight Soundtrack was much more edgy. I’m ashamed to say that I hadn’t listened to Iron and Wine prior to the soundtrack, and I’m so glad that I’ve now had that introduction.
As far as putting it at the end credits because it doesn’t meet the cut, as someone recommended above (maybe out of niceness?), I strongly disagree. The credit song (15 Step by Radiohead) on the Twilight movie was one of the best!!! A lot of people put that on their iPod after hearing it roll at the end of the movie.
As editing is part of my life (I’m a photographer), some of the best advice I have gotten from teachers/photographers (who edit at NG) is that the stronger the edit, the better the piece. Leaving in a weak song, like Justin’s, even if it is at the end, which of course is so critical in storytelling, would just bring down the quality of the whole.
Nothing against Justin, but it does seem like an attempt, whether by him or his manager (I’m not sure how the system works), to ride this Tsunami called Twilight. Can’t blame him, but I believe that Summit and Chris Weitz and the actors even (it was Kristen Stewart who proposed ‘Flightless Bird’ for that last scene), will keep the caliber of the film AND THE MUSIC on the up and up. Right?!

I hope you are right about Weitz (and the others who have influence over the song choices) keeping the caliber of the music on the up and up. I have to admit that for a Justin Guarini song, this one is pretty good, but it does seem like he is just trying to cash in on Twilight’s success. I mean, come on… the words fit TOO WELL, but the style is all wrong.

I have to agree with the masses. The the lyrics fit too well. too mainstream. Not edgy enough!

I didn’t even finish listening to the song. The music wasn’t too bad, but I didn’t care for the vocals at all.

LOVED this song! I’m addicted to it already. I really hope it makes it to the movie!
If it doesn’t, I hope he puts it out anyway. I’d definitely buy the CD.

I thought the song was good, and the lyrics fit perfectly with what happens in the story. However, I don’t think it has enough edge. It’s not alternative enough and for that reason I can’t see it in the upcoming movie OR the soundtrack. Bands like Paramore, Linkin Park, and Muse just fit better! Sorry!

I wanted to turn it off at first but decided to give it a fair listen. I think it’s an ok song… but it’s not for New Moon. I personally enjoyed “I’m Here” by Lee Safar. She’s unsigned I believe but you can search her song on youtube!

Did not like it at all. The one thing I like about most movie soundtacks is that the songs can be about more than the movie. This song is really only about Twilight, there is nothing “universal” about the song..

It’s cliche. Simple, boring, has no life to it. Most songs aren’t meant to be like, “Hey, I’m a vampire. Your blood sings to me. I miss you.” It’s not creative/artistic enough, imo.

Good song, maybe they’ll get some downloads? But I agree with most – not really a good idea to put a song out there so early. I liked the surprise of the soundtrack for Twilight.

I thought the song was okay. I might listen to it as some background noise. Whether it belongs in New moon, I am not so sure. It would depend where and how they put it in. I wouldn’t call it right for the theme song it is definitely too mainstream too smooth. New Moon is full of pain and Angst. This doesn’t have that edge to it, nor does it express the power and intensity of the love between Edward and Bella. Not really for the Twilight crowd.

It’s too literal. Not New Moon worthy. Sorry.

This song is not good. It’s too cheesy for the Twilight saga, in my humble opinion. Too much guitar, too boring, and mediocre vocals. A song like “Black Metallic” by Catherine Wheel would be perfect for this movie.

I liked the lyrics, but it needs to be edgy for this series. That seems to be the pattern. However, this movie is more depressing and maybe the music will be softer. Get Rob to sing it!!!!! He can put his personal style to it and see how it goes???

I think it would be a good song to play if they show Edward after he has left and he is in pain missing Bella…

Umm No. The song is okay but not right for the movie. I can tell he tried but still too much of a poppy, bubblegum feeling. This soundtrack needs an edgy/raw sound. I think they did a great job with the 1st soundtrack and I hope that since artist know this movie will be huge too, and everyone wanting a piece of it they will stick with bands like Paramore, Muse, and some Kings of Leon wouldn’t hurt my feelings either : ).

Lyrics are okay. I think it’s okay for a male to sing it. I see it written from Edward’s perspective. Not sure about his particular vocals though.

I think it is very brave of him to put his music up for people to critique. That is a hard thing to do. This song is OK but not very original. Then again he would probably say the same thing about my music
I am so excited to see New Moon and equally excited about the soundtrack. I really want to hear something straight from the soul that will break your heart when you hear it – just like Bella’s heart was broken.
