Charlie’s Movie ‘Stache

Posted on 17. Jun, 2009 by in News

If I remember correctly, book version Chief Swan does not have a mustache – but as we all know, MOVIE Chief Swan does. Well, Billy Burke wants to know what you think about that.

Billy has been Twittering about his furry friend (who he says “now has it’s own makeup trailer” :) ) for the last day or so and says he’d like a vote on it – after he gets 100,000 followers or so. So if you haven’t added him on Twitter, go do it!

I for one am curious what the outcome would be. I personally like the ‘stache. It just seems very small-town-police-chiefy to me. But Billy looks pretty dang handsome without it….

I hated that mustache the first time I saw it but now it’s so much of who Charlie is, I’m not sure I want him to get rid of it.

That’s exactly how I feel about it too. I’m so conflicted. :-/

In the DVD director’s commentary version Catherine Hardwicke said that the mustache was Billy Burke’s idea and she thought it really worked for the part. She said that Billy pictured small town cops with mustaches. I agree that I think it works for the character. I think he looks more like a dad with it than without it. Without it he looks younger and hotter! LOL

LOL that last line is exactly what I was thinking when I was getting the pictures together….”Hmmm, Charlie’s kinda hot.” ;)

I liked the mustache a lot. In everyday life, I think mustaches are horrible and just out of style, in my opinion. But in the movie it just seems right for a small town sheriff. I think its a keeper totally and I hope they do not get rid of it in the movies because that is how I see charlie now.

If they decide to axe the stache for the purposes of the film the good thing is all they have to do is add the dialogue “Hey Dad! You shaved! Awesome.” and that takes care of that.
