Leah Clearwater and Vampire Baseball

Posted on 27. Jun, 2009 by in News

Lauren from Twilight Facebook and Andrew from Twilight Source just did a great podcast.

Part one of the podcast focuses on an interview with Q’Orianka Kilcher who is auditioning for the role of Leah Clearwater in Eclipse. You may recognize Kilcher from the film, The New World, which was released in 2005. (Kilcher played the role of Pocahontas in that film.) She’s a huge Twilight fan! What do you think? Does she look like your Leah?

Part two of the podcast is all about vampire baseball – be sure to check this out for a great contest! The podcast will give you all the information you need about how to enter, what prizes are up for grabs, and other exciting news tidbits. The contest ends Sunday, June 28 @ 8:00 pm EST.

YES!!! I loved her in The New World. She is talented & also very beautiful, I’m sure she could pull off the bitter Leah!

I agree, she does not come close. Checkout a Unknown named Ta’Sheena Finn. She is Native American and is very beautiful. In Lakota her name is means “warmth”. She is 18 and a half. She has been acting forever. she is perfect.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WAY

LEAH IS SUPPOSED TO BE BEAUTIFUL. SOMEONE DIVA LIKE. THIS WOMAN IS JUST NOT RIGHT!

    PLEASE SUMMIT, CHOOSE SOMEONE ELSE.

I really hope Summit chooses a new Native American actress, I think it would benefit the Native American community to have more than ONE young Native American representing them in film… Well, as a Native American that is at least how I feel :)

I’m rooting for Nicole Lee Smith, relatively unknown, Native American, exotic and fierce!

I agree with you completely. There are far too few roles for NA actresses available, and this would be such a perfect opportunity for someone! Plus I think that in spite of the fact that Kilcher is pretty, I don’t think she can act. I’ve seen her in two major films and both have been very wooden performances. And Leah is a very strong character to flesh out.

  5. [...] O mais caricato nisto tudo é que, pelos vistos, a actriz fez mesmo a audição para Leah, segundo o site Twilight Moms. [...]

Not even close to what I pictured. Not that shes not pretty, but she looks much older then I picture for Leah. I wouldn’t pick her for the role

No. Not even close. I understand that Leah is pretty, but she also is supposed to have an edge to her and a chip on her shoulder. Sorta tough on the outside. She doesn’t even come close.

I think she would be great for Leah. She is soo passionate about the role, if you have listened to the podcast, and that means so much!
About her age, she does not look too old, after all Chaske Spencer is 34 and he’s playing Sam. They look right together.
She is very beautiful and a great role model.
She has done work for the U.N., fights for indigenous rights, fights for measures to stop global warming, fights against teen abuse… And most of all she loves and GETS Leah, soo important!

Before you decide if she will be a good Leah, you need to listen to the podcast. She really won me over.
She is so passionate about Leah, that she gave up a chance to play Emily, so that she could have the opportunity to play Leah.
She understands that Leah’s tough exterior is a mask for the hurt she is feeling. This is soo important.
I think she is very beautiful, intelligent, and an excellent role model for young people.
She is involved with indigenous causes, teen issues, preserving the environment and is a U.N. Youth Ambassador.
As for her age, she does not look too old, she is 19 while Chaske Spencer is actually 34 (a young looking 34!). She looks the same age as Tinsel Korey, who is playing Emily.
Also very important, she is Native American, she is from the Quechua Inca tribe. It is of extreme importance that someone Native is chosen for all the Quielute parts.
Summit, she is an excellent choice!
    Please cast her!

    • Luthien

      29. Jun, 2009

Well if she’s Quechua Incan then she’s not Native American is she? They should choose a Quileute woman. How radical would that be?

Ramona Seymour is Coast Salish and Shuswap, Leah Clear Water should be played by her. She has strong acting skills that is needed to play Leah.

When I first saw her she looked too old for the part. She is very pretty and I think that she would have done great but Leah is around Jake’s age.
The fact that she turned down the part of Emily to play Leah says that she is too old to be playing the part of Leah

I loved her in The New World, I would love to see her in the twilight saga also! She is a beautiful young woman.

    Qorianka is 19.
    Perfect.
    Great Actress.
Summit might not like that she has no fan base, but she is an actress who is highly respected for her art films and acting skills.
    Qorianka for Leah!

Ashley Almon, has the most perfect edge for Leah,

In my opinion, I think Q’Orianka is really pretty.
    I haven’t seen her act.
I’m not sure who I would want to see play Leah.
    BUTTTT….. I auditioned for the part. =]
So, I guess I’m hoping I get it.
    I’m Cherokee Indian.

she doesnt have the spark or charisma that Leah needs. Leah is full of life and independent…although this actress is very nice and respectable, I just dont see it. They should cast someone more youthful looking…she could pass for 35.

i’m sure q’orianka does really want this…so does every other native american/first nations actress in america! i really want them to cast someone ‘unknown’ to expand the diversity in hollywood. i’m still rooting for nicole lee smith who is actually from washington state…

well im mean i think that Leah should be played by someone that really wants the part, that fits the description, and is really passionate about the book so she can do an amazing job i think that Leah Clearwater should be played by someone that fits the description people are all saying oh we want a native American to play her well in the bussines its hard to find what everyone is looking for i think we all should be happy if they even find a Leah Clearwater i think she should be played by any race but just match the description and if you agree say team Leah.

Q’orianka is suggested by many because she is probably the most well-known “native” actress due to ‘the new world’…but her heritage is actually south american, not north american native. She is Quechua which is a Peruvian tribe. the role needs to go to someone who is authentically of north american native descent…i’m sure there are plenty of GREAT actresses out there to be discovered! After looking at all the suggestions, Nicole Lee Smith looks like the best Leah to me!

    06. Jul, 2009

I totally agree that the part of Leah should go to a Native American actress. Q’orianka is NOT Native American. Her father is Peruvian Quechua, which is indigenous to South America. Native Americans in the United States are the indigenous peoples from the regions of North America now encompassed by the continental United States, including parts of Alaska and the island state of Hawaii. The role of Leah is supposed to be played by a North American Indian, completely different than Quechua. A North America Native American should be cast as Leah. There are plenty of excellent Native American Actors that could fit the role of Leah. Sorry but Q’orianka is of Peruvian decent, which means she is not Native American.

I think Q’orianka is the best person for the part!

I agree.. She can totally pull it off.. she deserves this role..

    12. Jul, 2009

I don’t think that she needs to be Native American necessarily…but she needs to look it. Personaly I don’t think Alex Meraz looks all that Native American, but he looks good with the rest of the pack

I love this actress but not for the part of Leah..
A.) this actress is 5’4″ according to IMBD.
Leah is described as TALL , and also needs to be some what physically fit. Not all buffed out to the extent of the Male members of the pack, but she needs to look like she could kick some ass
B.) Leah is different she stands out from the wolf pack since she’s the only girl, she needs to be exotic looking and be able to come off as bitchy yet wounded..I mean the poor girl is dealing with a lot of issues, her dad just died, the man she loves is now with her cousin which is out of her control and his, and she’s dealing with the whole wolf thing and has nobody who can relate as the other shape shifters are male.
She’s a pretty complex character so they need to cast someone who can bring all demensions of her to life on screen

Q’orianka looks and is Native American.. south, north, central.. who gives.. at least she is native and she works with indigenous peoples rights all over the place.. she is perfect for the part and deserves it as well… i really hope she gets the part… as for the other actresses that are being considered for Leah Clearwater.. i don’t think anyone has the skills Q’orianka has she’s been acting all her life..

    14. Jul, 2009

I agree on the acting part.. they could have gotten better actors.. but i think for what they have.. the series is pretty good and i am excited for the sequels.. but i do hope for the role of leah they choose Q’orianka.. and for the role of Seth.. i don’t really have anyone in mind.. but hopefully they find someone that can act..

Nicole Lee Smith is my Leah, I really really hope Summit thinks out of the box!
    And…
Leah was never described as “tall” in the books, only as the smallest werewolf. Even smaller than the 15 year old boys!
Kilcher does not have the edginess that Leah requires, she doesn’t look exotic or strong. She has an “Emily” look to her.
    And…
I wish we would hear more about Tinsel Korey, now she is beautiful and talented!

Ah, i was going to do the open cast thing, i’ve done some theatre before and i am native american. I checked after july 1st, and i was too late for that bit of info though. I agree with all the comments that they should go with someone “undiscovered”, they dont need an actress with a “fanbase”. Twilight has its own fanbase, and a pretty big one. (:
