Metro News interviews Chris Weitz

MetroNews.ca continues their New Moon coverage with this fantastic interview with Chris Weitz. Seriously, anyone that has been worried about Chris’s ability to direct New Moon must read this interview. It’s so obvious that he gets it!
Q. What is it about this story that resonates so much with its audience?A. It deals with emotional occurrences that everyone has gone through. You’ve got all this supernatural stuff, but really what it’s about is falling in love for the first time, losing that love, wondering if you’ll ever be happy again, the restorative power of friendship, having to choose between the guy who seems the right guy or whether you’re going to hold out for the wrong person. This is true of girls, boys, men, women. We’ve all had the experience of falling in love or having unrequited love or being left and feeling miserable and hoping you can get someone back. All these things are universal.
This interview just made my whole day!

Oh I am even more excited about this director. What a great guy. I did have to make a comment on their site about something that was said about hidden older fans. Um, excuse me? I don’t think throngs of women 20 years and older are hidden. We are EVERYWHERE!!! And we can be even scarier than a 14 year old fan when things are not done right.
Is it November yet?!? *whine, whine, whimper*

It was my Professor who urged me to read the Twilight series. I’ll admit, I was skeptical at first~didn’t think I would be into the demographic of readers. But, WOW~was I wrong on every count of my skepticism.
I really couldn’t put the books down. I read them in a weekend! Mr. Weitz is correct~the story may be written for a demographic of youth readers, but it transcends that demographic in that it spans the generations through the experiences of life and love. As he so correctly stated, *these things are universal.” And, at the same time~there is an idealized love there and many of us long for that. Plus, many lessons are burried in this book series, many, if you peer closely (friendship and devotion/ right/wrong/abstinanence/chivalry/self-lessness for the betterment of someone else, etc….so many).
Yes, I AM excited that such a genuis of a man is working on this wonderful movie! He gets the point without being hokey.
I’m eagerly waiting to see New Moon in Nov (just in time for my B-DAY, yay!)
And…I am one who is not ashamed to admit that I am well over the demographic base in which this book series was geered.
Cheers

I cannot wait til November! Everytime I hear something else about Chris Weitz, I love him more and more. I’m so excited to hear that he’s taking this on with openness of all generations loving this saga. Twilight the movie may have been labeled a generational film, but he definitely sees the vaster audience and appeal.
I CAN’T WAIT!!!

I agree with Mrs. B… as a fan who is in my 40′s, he should be more worried about the older fans than the throng of 14 year old’s! LOL!
But seriously though, what a great interview. It does reassure me that he is putting together something special and I can’t wait until November!!!!!!!!!

Hey Mrs. B,
I am in my 40′s as well and have mentally beat myself up thinking it abnormal to be so obsessed over a book series and now movies. I also would never drool over a young actor like Robert Pattinson, esp since I am married to such a great husband of twelve years….but I continue to reassure myself that it is not Robert P. that makes my heart skip a beat, but Edward…I have read the books three times just to feel the peace of being in Forks and feeling the romance of Edward…..I too can not wait until Nov when New Moon finally comes out and wonder why they would ever put us Twilight fans through such agony waiting so long. I am very excited about Chris Weitz directing it since a director with his experience would bring New Moon to a level that the first movie never reached.

I am so excited to read this. I had my doubts about CW directing NM at first, but I think he’s going to do a wonderful job. I don’t have any doubts any more. I can’t wait till Nov.

Hello all,
I am definately in the older women demographic… I got hooked on these books while reading them before I allowed my daughters to. It took me 3 whole days to read the series.
The charms and inqueries of love will forever be an inticement to women in all age ranges…

Wow. That’s pretty fantastic. I have to say I was one of those people that was really disappointed with the trailer. I knew it was a first draft and didn’t have all the elements that make people rush to the theatres, but was still sad when I saw it. Now, reading this interview some of my faith in how the movie will turn out has been restored. I hope everything he said here translates to the screen and survives editing.

The more I hear from and about Chris Weitz the more and more EXCITED I get about New Moon!! Chris really seems to get it. I love that he’s dedicated to making New Moon true to the book. It’s also great that he acknowledged the fact there is a wider audience for the Twilight Saga than just teenagers and that he’s looking to make a older audience happy with the film as well.

Ok, I love that Chris Weitz totally gets it. He’s not turning it into a vampire movie or a horror movie. He knows that it’s a love story first and foremost with the supernatural mixed in. Love it. I am even more excited now. Can’t tell you how much it gets my panties in a twist when people keep harping on the vampire angle – that there isn’t enough gore and action. I just hopt they make the wolves more imposing.

I’m glad I found you guys…I was so worried I was the only one in the universe who could be one of those tweeners mother who loved these books! Chris Weitz is the perfect director of New Moon! The interview hit the nail on the head as far as I was concerned…it’s not all about Vampires & Werewolves…it’s about life and the ups and downs! November can’t come fast enough for me!
