Here’s what Summit says:

THE TWILIGHT SAGA ADDS ACTRESS
BRYCE DALLAS HOWARD TO FILM FRANCHISE

Actress Rachelle Lefevre Will Be Replaced By Howard In The Role Of Victoria

Los Angeles – July 28, 2009 – Summit Entertainment announced today that Bryce Dallas Howard will take over the role of “Victoria” in the studio’s upcoming production of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE. Actress, Rachelle Lefevre, who portrayed the character in TWILIGHT as well as the upcoming release of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON, will not continue in the role due to scheduling conflicts with another commitment the actor has made. THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE will start filming in Vancouver this coming August.

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, the third film in the studio’s TWILIGHT film franchise based on Stephenie Meyer’s blockbuster book series, will be directed by David Slade from a screenplay written by Melissa Rosenberg. The film will be released theatrically in North America on Wednesday, June 30, 2010.

“We are incredibly happy that Bryce has agreed to come into the franchise,” said Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Worldwide Production and Acquisitions. “Rachelle brought “Victoria” to great screen life and Bryce will bring a new dimension to the character. The franchise is lucky to have such a talented actress as Bryce coming in to fill the role.”

Howard most recently starred in TERMINATOR SALVATION as Kate Connor and has been seen in SPIDER-MAN 3, LADY IN THE WATER, and THE VILLAGE. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her leading performance as an actress in the HBO film AS YOU LIKE IT.

In THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.

I’m saddened. For her to come so far and make all those invested appearances to be out with the snap of a finger. This BDH has the look and I hear wonderful things about her which is a good feeling. I really would just rather see Rachelle through the ending. She the one with the Wicked Curve Ball!!!!!

After reading the statement from Rachelle, I am very upset! Summit is a business. Who at Summit would think this would be a smart business move? Couldn’t they film a million other things for 10 days while she was finishing up the other movie? Do they not understand the fan following she has or any of them for that matter? Yes Rob, Kristen and Taylor all have large followings, but we have embraced ALL of the actors! OR maybe they are getting a little bold because they KNOW no matter what they do (aside from recasting Edward) we will still pay the money to see Eclipse (many times I’m sure) and buy the DVD? Had it been Rob or Kristen, I am sure they would have accommodated their scheduling conflicts. How anyone can do this is just heartless and hopefully Summit understands how cold they appear to us! Good Luck in ALL of your future endevors Rachelle. You will ALWAYS be the true Victoria.

I cannot believe they would change a character during the middle of a series.

From the statement that was released, she had a 10 day overlap with another film. They couldn’t have worked around 10 days!! I’m not in the business, but this just doesn’t seem reasonable. It seems like they were looking for a reason to make the change, and they found one (makes me think of the Volturi, Yes I am obsessed!).

If memory serves me correctly, didn’t they shoot the big ballet studio finale in Twilight first in order to accommodate Cam. This is so wrong and unfair.

She looks like a great replacement for Rachelle all things considered. I write this after reading Summit’s statement.

      Completely agree!

I almost fell out of my chair when I saw Bryce as the replacement. I think I may be 1 of 4 people that loved “The Village” but none the less – Bryce is talented and I think she’ll add a new dimension to Victoria.

I’m am now stoked to see Eclipse!

Another example of a Hollywood big wig getting his little girl cast in a profitable film. Not only is this disrespectful to Rachelle, but to the fans as well.

If Rachelle’s people weren’t willing to be straightforward and work with the schedule of the movie and everyone else was, I think Summit is justified in bringing in someone new. The fact that it is Ron Howard’s daughter is fine with me. First of all, I think she’s proved her merit and talent. Second, for crying out loud people, it’s Ron Howard! Happy Days, people!

It’s a free country, so sign a petition if you want. I’m starting to understand the new term ‘Twi-hater’. The reactions seem a little…immature. Am I on TwilightMoms or TwiTeens?

Last time I checked it was TwilightMoms, but then, you being so into Happy Days, maybe you are a bit confused. Does it not seem strange to you that Summit states that it did not learn about Rachelle’s scheduling conflict until July 20 and yet has her replacement already signed? Last time I check, it takes meetings, negotiations, meetings, hammering out details and more meetings to get someone on the cast – no matter HOW popular the movie is. I don’t see how that all could have taken place in the timeframe Summit is claiming. Personally, I think Summit got greedy, realized that they could save money by getting rid of Rachelle and took the overlap as an excuse. Rachelle is not stupid – she has interviewed again and again about how she loves the series, how she loves her co-stars and how psyched she is about filming Eclipse, and yet you are willing to believe she’s going to throw that away and “not be straightforward” for a movie that required 10 days of filming? Hm. I just hope her lawyers have better luck explaining the “facts” to Summit. As for “immature”, some people are passionate about their likes and dislikes – those of us on this forum love Twilight and feel strongly about it, maybe you don’t understand that, after all, it’s not Happy Days, is it?

I am sadden by the news, but we are all going to have to accept it and move on. I am not a fan of actor switching, but have faith that Bryce will do a great job. I loved the Village and the Lady In The Water. I am not one to point fingers since there is 3 sides to every story. Rachelle’s side, Summit Side, and what really happened. I am glad that Rachelle brought Victoria to life and that summit has taken on the task to bring the series to life. I will still watch and enjoy the story that I have come to love so much.

I’m sorry but I don’t think the recasting is such a big deal. I like Rachelle but think Bryce is going to rock as Victoria. The shape of her face, her eyes, the cut of her jaw….I don’t know, I think I might like Bryce a little more than Rachelle.

I would rather see Rachelle, I know she is also a fan of the books as well as all us Twimoms. If you are on this site you have been around long enough to know how she feels right now. I know I have had my share of disappointments at work also. Life is full of ups and downs. I know that Howard is a great actress. I just hope she is not judged too harshly and compared to Rachelle. It will happen anyway and being the newbie on the set she will have some big shoes to fill.
