Actress Rachelle Lefevre Will Be Replaced By Howard In The Role Of Victoria
Los Angeles – July 28, 2009 – Summit Entertainment announced today that Bryce Dallas Howard will take over the role of “Victoria” in the studio’s upcoming production of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE. Actress, Rachelle Lefevre, who portrayed the character in TWILIGHT as well as the upcoming release of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON, will not continue in the role due to scheduling conflicts with another commitment the actor has made. THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE will start filming in Vancouver this coming August.
THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, the third film in the studio’s TWILIGHT film franchise based on Stephenie Meyer’s blockbuster book series, will be directed by David Slade from a screenplay written by Melissa Rosenberg. The film will be released theatrically in North America on Wednesday, June 30, 2010.
“We are incredibly happy that Bryce has agreed to come into the franchise,” said Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Worldwide Production and Acquisitions. “Rachelle brought “Victoria” to great screen life and Bryce will bring a new dimension to the character. The franchise is lucky to have such a talented actress as Bryce coming in to fill the role.”
Howard most recently starred in TERMINATOR SALVATION as Kate Connor and has been seen in SPIDER-MAN 3, LADY IN THE WATER, and THE VILLAGE. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her leading performance as an actress in the HBO film AS YOU LIKE IT.
In THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.

Wow! I’m shocked and bummed about this! I hope that the reason is true, and that she had another scheduling conflict and wasn’t ‘dumped’. She (Rachelle) seems to love the stories so much that I am surprised that she got into a scheduling conflict…I would have thought she would have seen everything through until the end. Bummer!

I like BDH as an actress, but Rachelle is Victoria…and Eclipse is the one where see the most of Victoria, so I would think Rachelle would have made sure she was available for this one and signed on in advance as I thought the other actors did. What a bummer. It will be interesting to see how BDH portrays her…wow…just wow!

Okay. So what REALLY happened? All of Rachelle’s interviews have been about how excited she is about filming the Twilight series. How hyped she is about getting to start Eclipse. She interviewed with Kellan Lutz and Nikki Reed yesterday and now she’s out? She’s done interviews about how “her page” (the page most fans want “Victoria” to sign) in the Eclipse book is when she loses her head and how excited she is to play that part in the movie and now she’s out? What gives? Scheduling conflict? Right, as if she doesn’t and hasn’t known what her schedule was. Someone must have gotten pissed off and decided to get rid of her. Poor thing – I LIKE her as Victoria – wonder how the Twi-world is going to take this – probably not so good.

Aww part of me is quite shocked to hear this news and a bit sad too. I was really sad until I saw her replacement was Bryce Howard. I love Rachelle as Victoria and I thought she portrayed her perfectly in Twilight but at least if she wont be in Eclipse the person taking her place is also EXTREMELY talented and some one I really love.
I am a huge M Night fan and I loved her in his movies.

Bryce is fine, but I’m so sad Rachelle can’t continue. She is one of the most cheerful and energetic of the cast. She’s a great Victoria, I wish she could see it through.

Yeah, no. Rachelle was fired. She was legally signed to all 3 movies, and all of the sudden there are conflicts with scheduling?! if Summit signed the original cast to all 3 movies, they can legally exersice that rigth and get her out of whatever contract she got into. IF they still wanted her. This sounds fishy… and it upsets me…

Yeah right, i’m sorry but i kind of have to agree with jess on this one. Rachelle was so hyped up to be doing all three movies especially Eclipse as thats the one with the big fight scene – she always said so in a lot of her interviews. I really hate when they mess with the cast like this, it might not have been too bad after twilight but after the 2nd movie – i think not. I just hope that BDH is more than something special to make up for losing Rachelle.

I agree with you Jess. I think she was let go. It is just sad, I loved her as Victoria, she played her as I saw her in my head. I think Bryce will do a great job, she also has the “look” of Victoria.

Wow! Well I have to say I’m totally disappointed. I was upset that Summit was rushing right into Eclipse to begin with and now that rush is forcing this change. It makes me very sad. I love Rachelle as Victoria…and this other actress does not fit how I pictured Victoria when I read the books. I’ll get over it and see Eclipse of course, but wish Summit had taken more time to think this through.

Summitt has made it VERY clear that the timeline for these movies is set in stone. They are not going to wait for what they feel is a secondary character to finish another movie. Plain and simple, she was pushed out so they can stick to the lightning fast release schedule. You will be missed, Rachelle! That said, welcome aboard, BDH! You have very big shoes to fill.

They should not have let her go. She IS Victoria! Bryce is a great actress, but that to me has nothing to do with the fact she is not Victoria.I personally am going to have a difficult time accepting her in her new role. What happened?! Are we going to be given the actual reason why they dumped her?That excuse they are trying to replace the truth with is insulting. The fans deserve better. Hmmm. I seem to recall a interview recently that alluded that not everyone was going to be continueing on. Anyone else remember this? I don’t remember the source.
Rachelle IS Victoria, but more than that, she has been incredible off screen. She seems so down to earth and accessible with all the fans. We will love her in NM and wish her the best in her “other commitments”.
PS. This does seem a bit fishy. I hope this really was her call.

Rachelle was/is my favorite from the start. Everything about Rachelle was a perect embodiment of Victoria. I think Bryce Dallas Howard looks the part but will she give it what Rachelle did? Can Twilight fans forgive this subsitution? Can I? I’m pretty heartbroken about it.

I am very sad to hear this. I am sure the new actor will do her best, however, in my head Victoria was so well realized by Rachelle it is going to be hard to adjust to a new person. She did have another film she is set to do. Perhaps she wasn’t signed on to do all three lagelly. Maybe her new film will pay her more? I don’t know. I hope it wasn’t the studio being big jerks

Very disappointed!! I CANNOT stand when actors are changed in series. I really like BDH…i do, but Rachelle was wonderful and more than that, she BECAME MY VICTORIA!! What’s terrible is that she becomes more than just a supporting character in Eclipse, she’s SO IMPORTANT…if anything they should have made this change before New Moon…bad move by Summit!

I don’t buy “scheduling conflict”. I have read too, that
the cast was committed through Eclipse. All the interviews
I watched and read, she was so excited. It does not make sense that she would leave with her biggest scene yet
to be filmed. Eclipse is my favorite book. I am concerned
with the direction of Spade as director. STEPHANIE please
be there and get involved with this film.!! After this stun, anything could be possible. Launter better “grow” as Jacob gets even older looking in Eclipse and he already had to try out and work his buns off for New Moon. Seems like they are bringing in bigger names slowly.

I have such mixed feelings. I hate cast changes of any kind and I loved Rachelle in Twilight. I can’t believe this was her decision. However, if she had to be replaced, Bryce Dallas Howard is a wonderful actress and I’m sure she will do an excellent job.
I just hope this is not a sign of things to come. Please do not change anyone else Summit.

I am interested to see what Stephenie Meyer has to say.
I can’t believe that “Summit” would replace Rachelle Lefevre. If it was any other cast, like for example; Kristen Stewart, I’m sure “Summit” would work around her schedule. Rachelle Lefevre’s role in “Eclipse” is not that big of a role-the character Victoria would hardly be seen. The only time Vistoria is mentioned is when the Quiluettes Werewolves have a sniff of her and chase her. The other scene is the big fight scene. So there no reason to recast her role-”Eclispe” would be the last time to see Victoria. Too bad there is no way of petitioning the change.

I don’t believe a word of what Summit said. Check E! Online’s Web site; they just posted Rachelle’s reaction, and she comes right out and says she is stunned. She had every intention of doing “Eclipse,” and apparently was led to believe the 3-month “Eclipse” shoot would work around the *10 days* she would be required to be on set for the other movie.
I hope people rally in support of Rachelle. I certainly will.

I have nothing against Ms. Howard – I’ve enjoyed her work – and wish her the best of luck always.
But, I do have a problem with Summitt Entertainment and it’s ridiculous decision to allow Ms. Levebre to be replaced. Summitt, you guys blew it! Your still thinking like a small business and obviously haven’t kept up with your growth.
A different director for every movie was annoying, but this blase announcement to allow the actor of a key character to be changed mid-game reflects lack of vision and insight.
Has the key decision maker responsible for this situation at Summitt even read the series? It sure doesn’t look like it.
Ms. Levebre absolutely brought the character of Victoria to life. Anyone that watched Comic Con interviews can tell you her plans were to complete the series.

Most likely BDH wanted to be in ‘Eclipse’ and Summit jumped at the opportunity. Also, I think that Bryce has more of the “leading lady” quality and experience that is needed for Victoria in ‘Eclipse’.
Personally, as much as I really liked Rachelle in ‘Twighlight,’ and I’m sure I’ll love her in ‘New Moon,’ I think that BDH is truly the better choice for ‘Eclipse.’

I just read an article that the “so called scheduling conflict” was approximately 10 days in a three month shooting schedule. Summit/David Slade changed days. I think Summit has made a HUGE mistake! Rachelle is an amazing actress and should be allowed to finish the part. It will be hard to imagine the other actress in the role for me. Obviously Summit has no regard to keep the integrity of the series. Money is what they care about!

Rachelle IS Victoria and I know everyone true fan will agree to that. I realize Bryce is a great actress, but it’s more than just that. Rachelle brought Victoria to life. Ok, so I think summit is making a huge mistake on this one. They are replacing Rachelle over this so called scheduling conflict which is a film that Rachelle signed up for that would require a 10-day filming frame. Which according to Rachelle was not breaking her contract. But summit fired her over this. Rachelle has come out and made a couple of public statements about this saying that she is stunned over summit’s decision and that she was totally commited to the twilight series. I can’t believe they are switching actors over this! I hate when they switch actors in a series it really messes up the whole feel of the series and makes the characters seem fake. I wish summit would change there mind Rachelle was the perfect Victoria and should not be replaced!!!
