Stephenie Meyer: Inspiring Moms everywhere

“Aprilynne Pike’s WINGS is a remarkable debut; the ingenuity of the mythology is matched only by the startling loveliness with which the story unfolds.” ~Stephenie Meyer
Last night the lucky women over at Mundie Moms were able to chat with Aprilynne Pike, author of Wings. Sadly I wasn’t able to attend the chat (I hadn’t finished the book and didn’t want to be spoiled) but Katieb did send me a little bit of the conversation with Aprilynne.
Aprilynne was asked what inspired her to write and here is her answer:
Aprilynne: I was inspired by the publication story of a woman I met from my mother-in-law’s writing group. She was about to have her first book published. A little book you all may know about called Twilight….So anyway, Stephenie showed me that even a regular old housewife could write a book and go on to get it published and I have been working at that goal almost every day, ever since. The fun thing is that since I have gotten published, I have met TONS of moms who are also authors. I think Moms are uniquely suited to write for children of all ages.
I am continually amazed at the inspiration Stephenie has provided to so many women. I love stories like this!
So, I’m curious- What has Stephenie, a stay-at-home Mom turned best selling author, inspired you to do?

What has Stephenie inspired me to do? Start a blog! http://www.mytwilightpurgatory.com I am also kicking around ideas for a screenplay. I would never have considered doing either had I not read about Stephenie, her kids’ swimming lessons, and a little dream about a vampire…

I have also been inspired to write a book because of Stephenie. I am writing about an expreience my husband and I dealt with 10 years ago. Once I read Twilight and heard her story, I thought, if she can do it, so can I. We shall see!

She inspired me to both read more and write. It has been so long since I really read anything with work and kids and family stuff I never felt I had time. Now I am reading a lot! And I have started writing, something I have secretly wanted to do for so long, but never thought I could. Stephenie is my inspiration.

Stephenie is amazing! When I think of her being so young and having three young children and yet the time and energy to write that fabulous story, I realize how slothful and lazy I’ve let myself become!
I picked myself up and got busy doing what I should’ve done years ago. I’ve lost sixty pounds, started a fantastic exercise program and really started watching my health. As a result, my the doctors have taken me off almost all my medication. And I feel so much better!
I’ve also started back writing. Since I was ten years old, I have always had one story or another knocking around in the back of my head. At a time when other kids playing barbies, I was plunking away at a typewriter! I’ve been in love with the beauty of the english language. When I meet someone new, I always describe them in my head, using the most interesting words I can think of. However, before I read Twilight, I had let that part of myself slip by. I stopped writing and the stories that were in my head gradually disappeared. I had allowed myself to be BORING. And worse … I was unhappy!
I will never be Stephenie Meyer! I will most probably never write that best selling novel. But my stories make me happy. ALMOST as happy as reading Stephenie! And because I read the Twilight Saga … because I am motivated by the genius of Stephenie Meyer, I have found myself healthier and happier and my life will be forever enriched!!
Thank You Stephenie. A million trillian times … THANK YOU!!

Mine is more Stephenie and the women here at TMs. I find them as inspiring as I do her – more so sometimes.
I’ve gone back to school to get my teaching license. Something I should have done the first time I got my degree….but something I never made the time for, thought I should do, or thought I could do.

Reading Stephenie’s books have inspired me to finish a song I had been writing off and on. The lyrics were a healing process for me and a wonderful staffer at NNT offered to make a video for my song.

I think she did a wonderful job – the scenes she selected fit the lyrics so well.

I am a stay at home mom of three from Phoenix, AZ. just like Stephenie. I just finished an 119,000 word fantasy novel because of my love for Twilight and Stephenie, which I am trying to get published now. Moms should feel empowered by Stephenie’s example and know they can do big things and be moms.
