Jackson talks Last Airbender

In a recent interview with MTV, Jackson Rathbone talked about his role in M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender, Sokka vs. Jasper and filming action sequences in the movie.

“Jasper is so composed and kind of holding it all back, so getting to play a character where I can just run into people was great! I got to do this fight scene where I get attacked by three different people at the same time; I’m running through a battle trying to find my little sister, worried about where she is, and this guy charges me with a sword! So, I make the split decision to just tackle him, take him straight to the ground, and then someone else comes behind me and tries to slash me in the back – so I pull that guy over me, and he hits his own guy.”

The article also asks the question, Is Jackson the next Orlando Bloom? The question is really whether Jackson will “be the next actor to pull off the rare simultaneous-double-franchise trick?” like Bloom did with the Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean movies. I suppose in that context he could be, and I do love Orlando Bloom, but I’m still pushing for him being the next Johnny Depp.

LOVE the Depp comparison!! Both are great actors, play music, and are avant garde–Depp is the master at being able to play both a seriously quirky indie role and GIANT blockbuster at the same time, and well. I can see Jackson pulling that off….

Okay–I have adored Johnny Depp since “21 Jump Street” (how old am I?). Mr. Rathbone certainly has the look. I wonder if he also has the talent and quirky personality to be the next Johnny Depp?
