Jasper as Edward Cullen?

Posted on 16. Aug, 2009 by in News

The Twilight Lexicon has a summary of Day 2 of the Phoenix TwiTour posted.  Among the interesting tidbits they’ve posted there is this little piece of info-

Catherine Hardwicke said that the 4 finalists (who she called bachelor 1, 2, 3, 4) for the part of Edward Cullen were Jackson Rathbone, Ben Barnes, and Shiloh Fernandez. She said to watch for Shiloh because she predicts that he’s going places.

Hmmmmm…..

Once you’re digested that information here is the rest of the list of things learned at TwiTour Day 2 that the Lex posted.

1. Mike Welch can play the drums and do comedy song routines from Dreamgirls to Queen. He’s also an incredible backup dancer.

3. Catherine said two Twilight stars (one male and one female) have auditioned for her version of Hamlet.

4. Edi Gathegi was chased around the New Moon set by styrofoam green cows that were then replaced by CGI wolves when doing the wolf attack scene. He said it’s hard to keep a straight face when you’re being chased by green cows.

5. Edi just saw New Moon in a private movie theater with Stephenie Meyer and said he was nervous seeing the movie with Stephenie and he’s always nervous about seeing himself on film. Said the movie is fabulous, and amazing.

6. Gil Birmingham on acoustic guitar at 12:30AM is so worth staying up for. His repertoire runs from blues, to light rock, to a Mexican sound that then blends into folk. And, oh yeah, the man can sing!

That is interesting that Jackson audition for Edward, I think he would have not been bad as Edward, but I do like him as Jasper I think that is a better fit. Ben Barnes I recognize him from Narnia Prince Caspian movie, that would have been an ok choice for Edward, but I would have thought they could have made a better choice. Shiloh defiinetly not, I think he could be Emmet. I am glad as to the choices they did make for the main male characters. Robert makes a great Edward.

Robert Pattinson as Edward: One of the best decisions Catherine Hardwicke made in her entire life. We can also thank Kristen for choosing him out of all that auditioned, though it was ultimately Catherine’s decision. Their pairing (Kristen and Rob’s) as Bella and Edward is in my opinion, a match made in screen heaven.

I think that Catherine made the best choices on cast. I dont think Jackson would have been a bad Edward either, yet I think he just fits with the Jasper part very well. I love the Rob got the Edward part. Seeing him as Edward…I just dont think they could have made a better choice.

I think Catherine did great with the casting. Everyone one besides Kristen. The acting to how well she handles the fans could of went to a better actress and someone more grateful. Even her father has made bad comments about Twilight. They can replace Rachelle but not Kristen? Oh well, I guess I expected too much. I’d be unhappy if I were Steph.

Bee… finally someone that I can agree with. Kristen is too much of herself in every single role I’ve seen her in – her acting ability right now doesn’t allow her to vary at all. I was so disappointed when I saw Adventureland – her behaviors were not at all different from what I’d seen her do on screen in Twilight, or in interviews. While she is a very pretty young girl – she’s never been my Bella.

I think the best thing that was done was to cast someone that was not as well known. Even though Rob did Harry Potter, I don’t think he was in that enough to leave that much of a mark on our memories. Heck, I had to go back and watch the movie again just to see that it was him. Plus, he has an air of mystery about him, not just a pretty face.

FUNNY! I also go back to watch Harry Potter just to see if it really was ROB! Fate happens. Robert was pointed in the direction of Edward and given a firm push. What would Jasper be like w/out Jackson? Not something I want to imagine He fits the role of Jasper perfectly!

Well, I have to admit I’m hardly an impartial bystander. I’m drawn to Ben Barnes like a moth to a flame, so naturally I wish he’d gotten the part as Edward. But, I also think he would have made an awesome Aro. Nasty. And I really love how he handles himself in the public eye; he’s modest, intelligent, articulate, and has a great sense of humor. I’ll have to wait for Sept. 9th when Dorian Gray comes out I guess. sigh.

I remember Mike Welch saying that you always audition for the lead role and then go from there. I believe I read on this website that he also auditioned for the Edward role as well.
I think that everyone fits the roles that they have. Great casting!!!!

Shiloh Fernandez is a cutie! I watched him in the 70s flashback episode of Gossip Girl. He would’ve made a good Edward too :)

Haha, if anyone of them would’ve been cast as Edward instead, fans on here would be saying EWWW to Rob.

I’ve gotta tell you that our very own TM Espe aka espeinaz is the one that asked the question of Catherine at TwiTour about her other choices and why Rob. Pretty cool huh? It has made major news!

Yes, I was the one that stood up and asked Catherine who the other candidates were. We’ve all heard the stories of how she and Kristen knew Rob was THE one. I wanted to know who else was up for the role before they decided he was it. It’s so odd now that I think about it because it didn’t seem like that big of a deal when I asked her, but it’s all over the place! I even noticed that Celeb Buzz picked it up.

Personally, after she answered my curiosity went from who was up for the role to how Jackson and Kristen reacted to the difference in character portrayal. It’s an interesting dichotomy.

I think RPattz as Edward is a great choice of Catherine Hardwick but Kristen is not too bad as an actress as well. I just hope that she can prove that all the fans effort for idolizing her is worth it.
