Comments on: Ashley Green, Eclipse “more guy friendly”

Does anyone know if the scenes/storyline is run by SM before it is shot/filmed? If it is, and she gives the green light, I have a little faith that Eclipse will be alright. If it isn’t I am a little worried. I like 30 Days of Night because it was a horror movie and I like horror movies, but The Twilight Saga is not horror. DS and Ms. Rosenburg should just follow the books and everything will be fine. It

I agree with all of you. And I really don’t understand why they would even attempt to try to market it to guys. They are not going to go (except with us). Twilight is predominately a female phenomenon. No matter how much action is in it, they still won’t go.

Bottom line – it’s a romance. Keep it that way. Part of what was missing from Twilight was the build up between Edward and Bella. And I would hate to romance part to be lost to fighting.

I think we all feel the same way. And you’d think they’d get it, but as they say, money talks. It’s so hard for anyone to turn a book or series of books that are so loved (case in point: Lord of the Rings) into a film. There will always be changes in order to translate the written word into something visual. I am okay with changes, just as long as: first, they don’t change the main storyline; second, they don’t change the main characters; third, they keep the same tone, the same overall emotional feeling, that is conveyed in the books. In the case of Eclipse, my favorite book in the series btw, as long as the violence doesn’t overshadow the romantic storyline of Edward/Bella/Jacob, and as long as the depiction of violence isn’t over the top (remembering who the demographic fanbase is), I’m hopeful.

I don’t know how times us fans are going to have to tell Summit and the directors and the screenwriter……JUST STICK TO THE BOOKS!!!!!! The Twilight Saga is successful because of the BOOKS. The storyline and the way they are written is the reason why we are all fans. I DO NOT want to watch someone’s take on the story I want to see the story of Edward, Bella and Jacob period not some action film with just a hint of Eclipse in it. I really hope David Slade does not take any inspiration from 30 Days of Night those Vampires were and are nothing close to the Vampires of Twilight and I do not want to see blood flying everywhere or scary shots of the newborns doing horror movie scenes. THIS IS A LOVE STORY!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am going to be so mad if they take this movie and turn it into some kind of Dark Knight and Terminator slash Vampire movie. I hope I didn’t ramble on too much but I love these books and the story of Bella and Edward and Jacob. One quote I think explains it clearly “Don’t fix it if it’s not broke” these books perfect just the way they are without any changes and additions. JMO

To clarify, I agree with RebeccaK that Summit should not alienate their original fan base trying to attract even more money.

To wreck a beautiful and profitable story for greed is shameful in my eyes. Sorry for the confusion. I am new at commentary… 8*)

I agree 100% RebeccaK! It certainly isn’t the male population who made the first movie so successful, so why do we need to pander to them now?
And prpltrtl, Summit is in business to make money so yeah, they are greedy.
Gee, I guess I answered my own question didn’t I? The male fan base too means more money for Summit…..

I think it’s going to be geared for the action more than the romance just because of who the director is. Which was always my beef anyway. yuk.

Amen, RebekkaK! I can’ say it better. I love a good bit of action as much as anyone. But the action is secondary. After all we, we watched Twilight over and over again, despite it’s low budget special effects. I hope they aren’t forgetting the MAIN POINT of Edward, Bella, and Jacob. It better make me cry–and not because their isn’t enough love story!

This is my favorite book, and not because some vampires get beat up.

They seem to have a bit more time to work on this one. Hopefully, the action will just be the icing on the cake, and not the cake itself.

I’ve said this before, and I guess I’ll say it again because there seems to be momentum to make the film franchise more “guy friendly”.

If action is part of the story, then it should be given due attention, and I’m happy to know that it will be done well. All parts of the story should be done well! However, this whole mentality of making the movies more “guy friendly” really ticks me off. In fact, it feels like a kick in the teeth.

The Twilight Saga has a huge and devoted fan base. I think the majority of us are of the female persuasion. The books have a somewhat specific market (teenage girls and their moms), and though that certainly doesn’t sum up the total character of the Twilight fanbase. I think it’s OK that the market is specific, is it not? As consumers, we (women), gave Summit a HUGE turnaround with Twilight.

The thing is, I don’t need the movies to be made for my husband or my father or my step-brother. I’M THE ONE WHO IS INVESTED IN THE SERIES! I’M THE FAN! MY SISTER IS THE FAN! MY FELLOW MOMS ARE THE FANS!

I guess the questions that come up are: Why do they think that action in the books/film is only for men? Why is there a push to increase the film fanbase/market and make the movies “guy friendly”, when the fanbase they currently have is bankrolling their party?

I was really looking forward to the love triangle in Eclipse, not so much the fight scene at the end.

I really hope that he does put some emphasis on the love story. I mean that’s what Eclipse is. It’s the love that Bella has for both Edward and Jacob and the choice that she has to make.
