Rumor Mill: Rob Pattinson in Dune?

Peter Berg has confirmed that a remake of the sci-fi classic, Dune, is in the works. The script is still in the writing phase, but internet bloggers are buzzing with the rumor that Rob Pattinson might just snag himself a role in this epic. Dune is based on the bestselling novel by Frank Herbert and has leaped to the screen twice. The original movie version was created in 1987 and a miniseries aired in 2000.

According to Joy Scaglione, a writer at The Examiner:

Berg described Dune as “muscular and adventurous, more violent and possibly even a little bit more fun.” He’s also looking into creating a possible franchise for the film.

No casting announcements have been made this early into development, but rumors about Twilight star Robert Pattinson taking the lead role have been floating around the internet since spring. Berg would only say that he was looking at “guys in their late teens.”

I think Rob has definately shown that he has potential to make a series successful. We’ll just have to wait and see if this rumor becomes fact.

I’m not sure how I feel about another Dune. I love the one from the 80s but I do understand they can do so much more with the graphics and such now. At least nothing can be as bad as the SciFi Channel ones. I don’t know if I could see Rob as Paul either. Acting wise I’m sure he’d be great, I just don’t think it’s a role I can really picture anyone in until I see it.

I’m confused! If Berg is only looking for “guys in their late teens” How would Rob be a consideration? Isn’t he like
    23 going on 24?

I don’t know if he’s the right look for Paul. My son is
20, loves the Dune series and would not identify with
    Rob’s look as Paul.
