A Get Well Gift

Some of you will remember my blog post about Blue October’s Pick Up the Phone tour. Sadly it was announced yesterday that the tour has been cancelled due to the lead singer of Blue October, Justin Furstenfeld, being hospitalized.
The Pick Up The Phone Tour 2009 has been canceled due to the hospitalization of Justin Furstenfeld, lead singer of the tour’s headlining band Blue October. Furstenfeld, who was also the spokesperson for Pick Up The Phone Tour 2009, is being treated for suffering from an extreme mental anxiety attack. His doctors have ordered that the tour—which was committed to reducing the stigma associated with mental health, depression, and suicide—be canceled to allow for his recovery.
“Mental health diseases are unpredictable,” says Furstenfeld. “And on the eve of this tour in support of a cause that means the world to me, I am in need of time to heal from a setback in my own personal life, which is severe enough for me to seek hospitalization. I hope that my action to seek the strength and safety of treatment will inspire others that are suffering to do the same.”
The Pick Up The Phone Tour was to benefit suicide prevention and was created through a partnership between the non-profit organizations To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA), Postsecret.com, Synclive.com, and 1-800-SUICIDE—The National Hopeline Network.
My heart is heavy because of this news. As you all know I’ve become a bit of a Blue October fangirl since Stephenie introduced me to their music through her playlists and the Breaking Dawn tour. I know that I am not the only TwilightMOM that has fallen in love with Blue October and their music. Even if you haven’t reached the same level of fangirly-ness that I have I know that most of the Twilight fandom has cried their way through “Hate Me” or “My Never” as we associate these brilliant lyrics with our beloved Edward and Jacob.
Almost immediatly after this news hit the internet there were discussions about how to show our love and support for Justin and the whole band. We thought of get well cards and gifts but that didn’t seem to be the right fit. We wanted to do something that would be more meaningful and permanent than a card and a plate of cookies (although the cookies are very appropriate since so many of our members are Moms
)
We know how important the cause behind the Pick Up the Phone tour is to Blue October so we felt that the best way to show our support and say thank you would be to raise money for the other organizations associated with the tour. Depending on the amount we raise we will either randomly pick one of the organizations or we will split it equally between them.
We will be taking donations up through Monday, November 2nd. You can donate right here in this post via PayPal. If you do not have a PayPal account and would like to donate through check please email me at [email protected] and I’ll provide a mailing address.

Thank you TM’s so much for supporting this cause! I sent my paypal donation in. Mental health is a critical topic that needs to be discussed more often. Good luck on your recovery Justin.

Oh this is sad to hear. I would’ve loved to donate some money, but with hubby being out of work for so long, we really don’t have anything to contribute. Is there any other way to show support? I’d love to do something to help even if not monetarily.

As a huge Blue October fan I can’t say thank you enough for doing this. I know Justin would appreciate it too. Blue October introduced me to the twilight series and I’m a fan of the books now too. I’m glad people are opening up with this issue. Thanks again!
