Rene actually did cast people she knew before in the New Moon too. Chaske and Alex have been in productions that have had her as the casting director for Native talent. Casting directors also keep in mind previous talent that have auditioned before.

These performers have paid their dues and worked really hard to try and make a living off of their talent. Rene did also cast people from the open auditions in the previous film.

I would agree that they should have not done an open casting call because the roles of Seth and Leah went to already established talent. I would think that she would also look at the pool of talent, from the open auditions, for future projects.

I think the accelerated film schedule for the movies also played a factor in the casting process too. If they had more time to find people then maybe it would have turned out differently.

The information in this interview kind of upsets me. To find out now that the casting director knew her beforehand and called her specifically to read for the part, when there was a HUGE open casting going on. It makes me feel like they were getting some people's hopes up for no reason since they already knew who they were going to cast.

I think Julia is extrordinarily beautiful and I'm sure that she's a wonderful actress, and none of my disappointment is directed at her, just at those who had already made the decision, but allowed many talented young performers to get their hopes up. I had thought of trying out myself, but didn't feel I had the right look for the part (I look young for my age, but not 18!), and knew that it would be a LONG shot, but I know of other actresses in my community that tried out and gave their all, only to now find out that it was all for naught, and never would have been.

Just my 2 cents worth!
