      FABULOUS!!
For the most part the soundtrack is phenomenal. I should preface this by saying that I am a HUGE fan of a lot of these performers except for Muse. (I can only stomach a few of their songs)
The bad news first: White Demon Love Song (The Killers): You Belong to Me (Muse); Done All Wrong (BRMC); The Violet Hour (Seawolf) and No Sound But the Wind (Editors) are the WEAKEST songs on this soundtrack, but not unlistenable.

      The strongest tracks:
      Possibility (Lykke Li) is incredible, very “Bella in the woods”;
      Friends (Band of Skulls), one of the few upbeat tunes, is very “Jacob” and very good;
Hearing Damage (Thom Yorke of Radiohead), Roslyn (Bon Iver & St. Vincent) and Slow Life (Grizzly Bear) are all OUTSTANDING and appropriately haunting for New Moon; Monsters (Hurricane Bells), Meet Me on the Equinox (Death Cab) and Shooting the Moon (OK Go) are all strong tracks as well.
Bonus tracks are growing on me the more I listen to them. And of course, Alexandre Desplat is a genius and makes me look forward to the score being released (hopefully with the musical piece that has been playing over the latest trailer!! )
I even like the two operatic pieces. I have very eclectic musical tastes though. I can see why those who are more sheltered may not find this to their liking.

There are only two or three songs that I like on the CD. I liked the Friends song and the one by Muse. Although, I feel that “Time Is Running Out” by Muse would have been perfect for when Alice and Bella are racing in the Porche to save Edward. I’m disappointed by the bulk of the CD though.

If you like the Muse song, you should download the album version! It’s a lot longer, a big piano middle – great song!

I love the soundtrack. There are some songs that are very haunting, and I have fun trying to figure out where they’ll be used in the movie. I like the fact that artists that I don’t normally listen to are used. The last soundtrack broadened my listening base a little, and it seems that this one will, too. The only thing I miss is a song from Rob, since there were some on the last CD, but I’ll live. lol

I think it will be like the Twilight soundtrack. Didn’t really love it at first but once I see the movie and relate the songs to certain scenes I will love it.

Was mixed at first, but it is growing on me, just like the twilight soundtrack did. Love Muse…. I still think I like Stephanie’s list better that she has on her website. The alternative music is a bit of a stretch for us mom’s, but they are really trying to target the young crowd for MTV.

      Jeanine,

I totally agree with your opinion. The soundtrack is growing on me, I have a few songs that I dislike but I do love the songs by Muse, Death Cab for a Cutie and the Killers. I think that “The Meadow” by Alexandre Desplat is just simply beautiful…. I also think that Stephanie’s song list posted on her website is a better fit.
Thanks to her, I discovered quite a few bands that I didn’t know existed that I really enjoy listening to nowadays, especially Muse. ..

I am a 40 something high school teacher and I have to disagree with the “target the young crowd for MTV” comment. Most of the kids at my high school have never heard of most of these bands. They prefer R&B, Rap or Pop. The Indie rock thing is a niche market for sure. It does happen to be one of my favorite types of music. And it definitely is one of Chris Weitz’s and Stephenie Meyer’s. I think that is the driving force here.

For most of it, and not being an indie-rocker in musical taste, I think I need to see the context the song is in to really get into it. However, as I’ve said before, I think the last song by Alexandre Desplat (who did the music for Golden Compass), “New Moon – The Meadow”, is worth the price of the entire CD. It’s so beautiful, so moving, it brought tears to my eyes.

Overall, the soundtrack is a thumbs down…LOVE the track from Alexandre Desplat and Anya Marie was ok…the rest I would not waste my money on honestly.

Love Meet Me on the Equinox, Friends, Possibility, Satellite Heart and New Moon (the meadow). The others I’m not so sure. Wish they had provided the lyrics.

    19. Oct, 2009

Agree with Heather – total thumbs down. Loved the piece from Desplat (perfect for a meadow scene!!), the rest seem like something straight out of a Hot Topic store disc that plays repeatedly….

I really wish they would have chosen more haunting, meatier tracks that were not so annoyingly grating and tinishly rockerish. “Twilight” did not appeal all that greatly either, no matter how much time and repeated play I gave it…it’s a shame.

NOW – the SCORE music is a completely different story! GREAT STUFF from Twilight…hopefully New Moon is even better! Can’t wait for that!

I’m not loving it yet. I do like Meet Me at the Equinox, Sattelite Heart & The Meadow, but other then that I’m not super impressed by. I do think this may change once the movie comes out and I have some context for the songs.

I love the soundtrack! I downloaded it from itunes becuase they always have bonas tracks on it. Solar Midnite by Lupe Fiasco is awesome! Interesting title ~ Solar Midnite. Could that be an Edward song? You know, Midnight Sun? I would have to say my least favorite is Meet Me on the Equinox. I too am eager to see where many of these songs will end up on in the movie. I always thought that I Caught Myself by Paramore was more of a New Moon song than a Twilight song. It sounds like Bella’s song to Jacob. Oh my…are we getting close or what!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    19. Oct, 2009

I’ve only been able to listen to about 5 or 6 of the songs so far, but I generally like it. I think it will take me a few times listening to all of them to appreciate every song. Meet Me at the Equinox, Satellite Heart, Friends, I Belong to You, Possibility are all great. Not loving Hearing Damage so far. I think people are too stuck on their top 40 music. Expand your music listening, people!

Love the Soundtrack, but i still think that the “Twilight” soundtrack is way better than “New Moon”.

Very dissastified. Would rather have Stephanie’s music, more of Muse,Paramore. Did like the “Meadow song”.

Hope Stephanie can choose music for Eclipse

I agree with Heather…Hated it !!! I didn’t bother buying it but listened to all the songs. Not my taste at all. Hope it’s not an indication of how the movie is going to turn out.

I’ll let you know when I can stop crying… talk about some teary music. I guess that is totally appropriate though.
My favorite track is Done All Wrong. I don’t think they could have picked a better one for Edward in that story.

    19. Oct, 2009

Love a lot of the bands’ other music…but don’t love a lot of the songs they did for this. Granted, I haven’t bought it yet, so I probably shouldn’t even comment…but have listened to all the previews a few times…just don’t love it enough to buy…yet. I have, however, bought a bunch of music from Lykke Li and Anya Marina’s albums…I’d never heard of them previously. Both remind me of Emiliana Torrini, who I love. Alexandre Desplat I was excited about…I think he did Mr. Magoriums score as well.

I hated Twilight’s soundtrack, except for Blue Foundation’s Eyes on Fire….and I’m not a Muse or Paramore fan at all. I liked Carter Burwell’s score (who did Where the Wild Things Are…I kept hearing little “Twilight moments” during the movie…LOL) a lot, but am excited to hear Desplat’s full score for New Moon.

I generally like the soundtrack. Many of the songs are haunting to be sure, I think pretty much on target for New Moon’s overall storyline. LOVE Solar Midnite. A pleasant surprise considering I thought I was a little too old to enjoy rap and rock like that. I also like Roslyn, Satellite Heart, I Belong to You, and Slow Life. Not too sure about “The Meadow,” (I personally liked Burwell’s music better, at least thus far) but perhaps it will grow on me once I see it in the context of the movie. Overall, pretty decent music. Like the Twilight soundtrack before, there are songs on this soundtrack I like and songs I don’t like. Can’t wait for the movie though!!

Yeah its okay. I enjoyed some songs and had to change the song on some. Maybe Ill like it better when the movie comes out. My husband said its something to listen to when you are trying to be creative:D I think I agree:D

    19. Oct, 2009

Didn’t like the whole of it. Liked at least one of the songs. Hope it makes more sense when coupled with the movie. The songs sound so similar though. I thought this movie was supposed to have more action. The soundtrack doesn’t reflect that.

    19. Oct, 2009

Well- it is just alright!!! I guess I need to see where these songs are being used to fully appreciate them I guess? But Twilight is a far, far, better soundtrack.

I don’t like it as well as the Twilight Soundtrack, there are a few songs on it that are cool though.

I have listened to the soundtrack all weekend! I love it! I feel that the songs are haunting and full of heartbreak (as they should be). My favorite track, so far, is Possibility (track 4). I love to listen to the songs and try and guess where they will fit into the movie. I think that track 4 will be after the break up. I can see Bella wandering aimlessly through the woods in slow motion, searching for Edward. Every time I hear that song, I get tears in my eyes. I hope that my predictions are right, or I may be disappointed during the movie (like that’s possible)! I think that the soundtrack is a work of art, just like the movie will be!!!!

Last comment was so right, you really have to listen to the soundtrack a couple of times to add to what she seid and it is good to hear music that might not be so popular but really full of soul , remember people the movie is sad so this soundtrack makes sense

I love it. I bought it on itunes so I could have the bonus tracks. Currently my favs are “A White Demon Love Song” by the Killers and “No Sound but the Wind” by Editors. The Killers always does an amazing job with their songs. They captured Edward perfectly. “No Sound but the Wind” is hauntingly beautiful. It is definitely an Edward and Bella song. I think the whole cd has the New Moon feel.

I didn’t love it at first, but it is growing on me. I absolutely love “No Sound but the Wind” by Editors! Also, “Possibility” by Lykke Li gives me chills and makes me want to beg Edward not to leave.

It took me a few listens to decide it was worth my money, but I am really liking Meet me on the Equinox, My friends, Monsters, and Possibility (though her voice sounds like one of the southpark characters).

I am still on the fence. I did not like the TW soundtrack when it first came out either and now I love it. In fact it has some of my favorite songs. I think sometimes we just need to stretch ourselves musically and that can be a bit hard to do. I am enjoying trying to figure out what fits with what scene though.

    19. Oct, 2009

Not liking it that much, only about two or three songs sound good. I know New Moon is a more somber movie, but the Twilight soundtrack is sooo much better than this…lets see how it all fits in with the movie :-(

    19. Oct, 2009

I dont care for it much. I loved the twilight soundtrack right away but this one…just not my style of music. I listen to the twilight soundtrack everyday in my car and i just can’t get enough of that one. I do hope that I’ll like it better after the movie because then when you are familiar and you hear the songs, you see the movie scene in your head….if that makes sense.

    19. Oct, 2009

I was a little disappointed at first but it will probably grow on me. I love alternative music but for me music is much more than lyrics, it’s an experience. I want to hear and feel the emotion of what the song is about; the lyrics are great but the emotion isn’t there.

I wasn’t sure that I liked all of the songs on the Twilight CD at first either. I am disappointed that Robert didn’t have any songs on this CD. I find his voice very rich and emotional and I thought his contributions to the first CD were fantastic.

  35. Julie

    19. Oct, 2009

Wow, I was really surprised to see how many people aren’t liking the soundtrack. I thought it was miles better than the Twilight soundtrack and found that there were only a couple of songs (Done All Wrong & No Sound But The Wind) that were just “eh” for me. My favourite song on the entire track is Thom Yorke’s (but I’m biased since I’m a huge Radiohead fan). We all have different tastes though, so it makes sense that it might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Perhaps once we see how each track fits in the movie, it’ll grow on people more. Personally, I’m loving this soundtrack though!

I listened to the CD all weekend and love it. It has a more melancholic tone than Twilight, but that is as it should be. After all the movie should be quite sad if it follows the book. Thirty-one more days.

Love it, love it! I have been listening to it constantly since Friday. Satellite Heart and Friends are my current faves, and I can’t wait to see which songs are played during which scenes…

    19. Oct, 2009

I was ORIGINALLY VERY DISAPPOINTED when the bands were announced, as I’ve not heard of most of them. But I was HAPPILY proven that the music is FABULOUS and very appropriate for the movie. I’m having a great time figuring out where the music will be in the story line and I think I have some solid ideas (don’t you think “Solar Midnight” is the song Bella tunes into on Jessica’s car radio as they head off for girls’ night at the movies??).

Thom York’s “Hearing Damage” has gotta be while Bella thinks she’s drowning after her cliff dive and Lykke Li’s “Possibility” is some time right after Edward leaves Bella.

  39. Adriana

    19. Oct, 2009

I’m loving Possibility, Friends, Satellite Heart, Monsters. I was disappointed with the Killers’ song. It was the one I was most anticipating. Total let down there. Did not care AT ALL for the Grizzly Bear song.

  40. twghtobssd

    19. Oct, 2009

It is very different than the twilight soundtrack. But I think it’s fine. I think once we see the scenes that go with the music it will go together nicely. Twilight was full of love and hope for the future. New Moon is haunting and depressing. I think the music fits. For the movie to be good the music needs to fit the movie not necessarily sell because of the fun songs. My favorite on the soundtrack is Satelite Heart by Anya Marina.

LOVE it!! Fave song–”Monster” by Hurricane Bells—it is just what Edward thinks of himself :)

  42. Leslie

    19. Oct, 2009

I thought the voices were extremely annoying the first time. Second time through, it was a little better. Now that I get the “feel” of the soundtrack, I really like it!

  43. Angie

    19. Oct, 2009

Having a little bit of a hard time adjusting to this CD. Totally like Twilight better, but there are some catching songs on it (like Thom Yorke Hearing Dmage, kept playing it because it brings tears in my eyes), also like Satelite Heart very much.
But altogether is a melancholic depressing CD, but ofcourse so is the story with the heartbreaking fact that Edward leaves Bella (keep rereading the books and getting more heartbroken everytime ;-) . I guess that means they’ve chosen well. I know, always other songs possible but still..

    19. Oct, 2009

I really love this soundtrack but many of the artists are ones that I regulartly listen to. Grizzly Bear, Sea Wolf, Radiohead (Thom Yorke), and Bon Iver are always fabulous IMHO. They can be upbeat but wrote songs that were appropriately subdued based on the context of the book, which will undoubtedly fit best with the tone of NM the movie.

  45. Heather M

    19. Oct, 2009

I didn’t read everyone’s comments but has anyone else been reminded of the 80s with the soundtrack. I know they are new songs but some of them have a def. 80s feel. Monsters by Hurricane Bells reminded me of Pretty in Pink by Echo and the bunnymen on the Pretty in Pink soundtrack.

  46. Caroline

    19. Oct, 2009

I love the New Moon soundtrack, probably more of an instant like than I did with the Twilight soundtrack. Love, love, love the following songs: Friends-Band of Skulls; Hearing Damage-Thom Yorke; Possibility-Lykke Li; Satellite Heart-Anya Marina; I Belong to You-Muse (have their new album as well which is awesome); Monsters-Hurricane Bells; The Violet Hour-Sea Wolf; No Sound but the Wind-Editors and The Meadow-Alexandre Desplat (can’t wait for the score). Counting down now to the opening of the movie-I get to see it on Nov.19 ;)

  47. DancingQueen

    19. Oct, 2009

I love the soundtrack! I am so happy they went with all alternative bands. In my opinion, that is how it should be, especially with the mood of New Moon. I felt all the songs fit. It has been fun trying to figure out where the songs fit in the movie.

My favorites right now are “Slow Life”, by Grizzly Bear, “Possibility” by Lykke Li, and “NO Sound But the Wind”, by Editors.

And of course MUSE is always on my favorites list. I am surprised though that they kept the original tempo of the song, in the remix. I thought for sure they would slow it down for the movie.

it is interesting how diff. our musical tastes all are! People list their faves and they are the ones I can’t stand ! Overall, I wish I had saved my 14.99 and ordered it on amazon for 4.99. I listen to my Twi soundtrack at least 3-4 times per week but will never do that with this one.
I really need to listen to the words to them all again but what I didn’t like was the singer’ s voices esp. Lykke Li (sounded like she had marbles in her mouth!) and the Editor’s guy (sounded like a bad lounge lizard or musical theater wannabe) ICK. Not my cup of tea :)

I didn’t love it enough to rush it out and buy it, I’m requesting it through my local library. I was looking for those ‘that song is so perfect for this….”, “I bet that song will be during….” But, I did’t get that feeling. Its not that I don’t like the artists, I love The Killers, Lupe Fiasco, Death Cab for Cutie, etc. I did have to give the Twilight soundtrack some time though, although I instantly LOVED Linkin Park and Paramore. I think it will grow on me as soon as I let it soak in and as I see where they fit in the movie.

Totally agree with Dancing Queen; Slow life, Possibility and No Sound but the Wind bring me to tears!
Love Done all Wrong and Hearing Damage as well.
It truly is a beauitful album. 2 Thumbs up WAY up!!! :)
