Understanding the Twilight fandom

Online movie ticketing site Fandango conducted a survey of those people buying New Moon tickets.  The questions ranged from reading the books to confidence in director Chris Weitz to Team Edward or Team Jacob and more.  They have shared the results with MTV’s Larry Carroll and they are fascinating

Here’s the one that surprised me the most-

But the tale gets even more interesting when you realize that 68 percent of the ticket-buyers weren’t aware of the “Twilight” franchise until the first film was released in November 2008. So, in essence, only 32 percent of the fans who have bought “New Moon” tickets have been “Twilight” fans for longer than 12 months.

I admit I am one of the fans who had never heard of Twilight until a friend told me about the books and movie. So I read Twilight two months before the movie. So I was a definite newbie to the series in 2008. Now, I can call myself a Twilighter:)

I heard of Twilight back in Nov/Dec 2008 because my teenage daughter was going crazy over it.

When the movie came out on DVD, I rented it, watched it, and have been an addict ever since. I have since bought and read (3 times) the 4 book set, and have many twilight items in my collection.

I will say, I am definitely a member of Team Edward, and my husband thinks I am crazy…LOL

Very interesting! As someone who never read the books until I saw the movie on on demand and have now read all 4 several times and have tickets to a Twlight/NM double feature AND NM on its own later the same day, I can relate! If the new movie is any good, it is going to be HUGE. Now let’s just schedule Breaking Dawn!
