Jacob’s line in Quileute

Posted on 23. Nov, 2009 by in News

For all of you wondering about the translation of Jacob’s line of New Moon dialogue spoken in Quileute, here’s something to make you wonder even more. ;) It was just posted on The Quileute Nation of LaPush, WA Fabebook page:

Dear Fans: Thank you for all the calls and emails regarding the scene in the movie where Jacob whispers to Bella in Quileute. Please know, we would love to translate the phrase for you, but out of respect for Jacob’s feelings for Bella we are unable to at this time.

Okay, say it with me now. Awwwwww. <3 I love this response.

Oh C’mon, that is a cop-out! Someone needs to ask Melissa Rosenberg then. It’s really bugging me, and I’ve been dying to know what he is saying! That, and Aro’s larger line in Italian.

OMG its a fictional character. What is the issue with telling what it meant, its in the movie! Ridiculous answer IMO..

That is so dumb. I assume he says “I love you”, but who knows . . .

I don’t have a problem with their answer at all. I think that we all know the basic idea of what he said to her without a translation. It’s not like we don’t know how Jacob feels about Bella.

    Seriously!

We’ve been inside Jacob’s head and know his thoughts!

We’re already know Jacob’s feelings for Bella!

There are only a handful of people who still speak Quileute and Taylor won’t reveal what was said in interviews either – I think it’s sweet. :)

I’m sure this was there intention – to make us go nuts trying to find out what he said!!!!!!

I’m italian, Aro says ” la tua cantante” ” your singer”and then he says in a very bad italian ” forse il vostro l’uno per l’altra” which has no sense but it should mean ” you being one for each other”. the correct sentence should be ” forse, il vostro essere l’una per l’altro”.
    I’m sorry I can’t help with the quileute :)

BOGUS! What’s the big deal in telling us? Like it’s such a big secret?

I thought it was “I Love You,” but of course that was just a guess based on the scene.

I typed in Google the question about Aro’s 2nd comment and also found a Facebook response/comment that the phrase that Jacob says is “stay with me forever” . But because the comment by Aro is said so quietly there were several translations. The one most likely because of Marcus telling Aro about the relationship with Bella and Edward is the “they are each for the other”…. this would go along with Bella and Edward’s willingness to sacrafice themselves for the other one – which Aro comments about…

I LOVE it. Thank you to them for keeping it private. It means so much more that he’s share his feelings in such a private way. Now we can each imagine what we would want it to be.

for Devon, what Aro says is in the books, La tua cantante or something like that. And it’s a word for when someone’s blood smells the way Bella’s does to Edward.

There’s an MTV interview where someone asks Taylor if he says “I love you” and he says that’s close, but he wants fans to figure it out first. So a bunch of people are saying he said “Stay with me forever”. But, idk.

Asked a friend about Aro (after La tua cantante)…She said she had a hard time hearing him, and thinks the verb tense was incorrect (which I think someone posted earlier). Along the lines of …”they are each to the other”. Now THAT is a nice addition, and explains Aro letting them go even better. What a hopeless romantic that Aro is LOL

This is a MOVIE, with fictional characters. They aren’t real! There is no privacy! The whole POINT is that you know the characters and feel what they are feeling and actually, you know, understand what the characters are saying to each other. It’s rather ridiculous to ‘respect the privacy’ of a fictional character. Seriously. (unless of course, it means nothing, and they were just making it something cool that sounded like a native american language, or they butchered it and it means something ridiculous, so they don’t want to say.) Really, I just think that’s ridiculous. When you are telling a story it doesn’t make sense to make something like that ‘secret’ from the viewers.

I love that Jacob Black spoke Quileute in this film. Now the language will truly never die. It will always be preserved on the film.

i belive he said something along the lines of “we belong together” or “i love you” or(as previously stated) “stay with me forever” or any number of things.the one thing we all know is that it shows the depth of his feelings toward bella.yes we already know how he feels but it’s better when spoken aloud.also not everyone has read the books so they dont know the true depth of his feelings(which)he reveals all with one short sentence.it is a nice addition to the movie.

I think is a nice touch that they don’t say what it means, the had all of us here talking about this, doesn’t they?

I think “stay with me forever” is just to long…
it has to be something like “i promisse” “i would be here” “i’ll wait for you” “i miss you”… is a response to what she said ” we don’t have to do this to each other” and has something to do with his promise to her, not only with his feelings…
“i love you” is just to obvious, it has to be something great, otherwise i’d would be dissapointed, wouldn’t you?

well page 410 in the new moon book which is this scene in the book has “i’ll miss you” jacob whispered..

the book tells you what ARO says.. but what Jacob said is only in the movie.. and the mistery is the appeal.. just go with it.. it will eventually come out.. no matter what it means. when Jacob said it every girl in the place’s heart skipped a beat. young or old..

    i love it..

Liar! No one can speak Quileute, except for a handful of elders in the tribe. And that’s a KNOW FACT. You ARE right, but I doubt you can speak Quileute.

      Ellison…
Quileute elders started a revitalization program to save their language, and even posted lessons on their website
http://www.quileutenation.org, so it is possible that RogueQuileute knows the phrase, and it was rude to comment the way you did.

According to Chris Weitz in a recent interview, Jacob says “Kwop kilawtley,” is that still translated as “Stay with me forever”?

I think that “I love you” would have fit the scene better, but that’s just my opinion.

I also think that the Quileute site is copping out so they can have more visitors to their site trying to decipher what Jacob is saying. If they just give the answer away, people won’t visit their site anymore.

Well you have all been spelling it wrong… even for those of you who “speak quileute”

    Jacob says, “Kwop kilawtley.”

    21. Dec, 2009

im pretty sure the other line aro says ‘Fore … ne il vostro l’uno o altro’ ….which according to Chris Weitz means ‘Perhaps…nor yours either”…which could be a response to bella’s line “you don’t know anything about his soul” but i also could see it the other translation about their love for each other i think it was “for each the other” or something like that…any way i agree with the quileute meaning “stay with me forever”….it makes sense in the context and to be honest i could picture jacob saying it

ps….ure right that aro’s italian was horrific lol

    27. Dec, 2009

first, aro said “La Tua Cantante”. means something like “ur blood makes edward stronger”

then he said”Fore … ne il vostro l’uno o altro”, i dont’ know wat it means excatly~ something like “you dont’ know either”. bella said “you dont’ know a thing of his soul” , then aro said “you dont’ know either”

    xD

  37. Ragazza lupo

    29. Dec, 2009

”Forse … ne il vostro l’uno o altro”
    forse = perhaps, maybe

“La Tua Cantante” means literally “your singer”
    “la tua” – your
(in italian one usually uses article+pronoun for “owning” something – la=the, tua=your)
    “cantante” – singer

i just figued when Jacob said ““Que Quowle” it meant …”Kiss me” …I’m SO glad someone clarified what it really meant. “Stay with me forever”….yea..there is a difference.

kwó•pat – word for “love” or “like”
-kalawo = lexical suffix for “you”
-li = lexical suffix for “I”

    Put them together:
    kwó•pkalawoli

(“at” drops off kwó•pat with the suffix added)

I’m just responding since it never appeared that somone did. According to the Quileutes, Jacob actually said kwopkalawo’li (pronounced quo-p-kah-lah-WOH-oh-lee) which means
    “I love you”.
