Robert Pattinson Suggests Gus Van Sant for Breaking Dawn

Last week Jamie Campbell Bower suggested Tim Burton to direct Breaking Dawn. Now, in an interview with MTV’s Larry Carroll, Rob throws Gus Van Sant’s (of Good Will Hunting and Milk fame) name into the ring:
“I think Gus Van Sant would be great to do it,” RPattz added, naming his dream director.
Rob also hints that filming may return to Portland for the fourth book-to-movie, a city that Gus Van Sant calls home:
“He shoots everything in Portland,” reasoned the 23-year-old British heartthrob. “He’s good at making it look beautiful.”

Gus Van Sant has made so many films that I love and admire, most recently MILK, which moved me so much, I hid myself in a bathroom stall to weep after seeing it in the theater.
Sounds good to me though I wonder about his own interest in dealing with the special effects in Breaking Dawn since that doesn’t seem to be somewhere he’s ventured before.

Well he’s an actor’s director, but think you’re right about style.Tim Burton puts off some people but don’t judge him till u see Big Fish.I think we should have 3 directors Catherine gets a part 1 Chis gets Jacob and the wolves(and all the funny lines)& then an intermission and when the movie comes back on it’s seen through the camera vantage point of Bella’s eyes.

Hila, that is really interesting…I love the idea!
While I totally admire love Van Sant (GWH is on my ipod–how you like them apples? LOL) I cannot imagine him going BD. To my knowledge he has no real experience with the FX–and that is a bigger part of BD than all the others! He would get the emotional side, but without the FX BD wouldn’t be the same (just like TW left a little to be desired, in my opinion, because the FX were so poorly done because of budget).
The idea of multiple directors is intriguing–as is making the movie 2 parts. Looks like we have a lot to discuss!!!

Having 3 directors also would help with the time constraints, there will be massive post production work.Plus having a differant view would be true to the book yet also work for pacing I hope after the intermission the screen is black till it looks like our eyes are opening to the enhaced vision it would have that edgy feel, like Requirm for a Dream and they could gradually back off the flicker effect till Bella is in control.David Splade’s photos show he could achieve this beautifully, but if I had to go with one director Darren Aronofsky.

Hila…….excellent!
Bring back the Hardwicke magic….I was reading the reviews on New Moon and a few critics mentioned they thought Catherine had made a film about teenage angst. That was my read on Twilight too..I “cared” about these characters because of her handling of the material. She got the best reactions from the actors (and I don’t care that the special effects weren’t great.)
On Friday afternoon I sat in a full theater of young woman, pre-teens and their moms, and they laughed when Bella and Edward were in the water and when Alice showed Aros Bella and Edward as they romped through the forest as vampires! It was a bit cheesy! Edward’s floating head didn’t do it for me either.
Hopefully, Summit will get the box office they need with New Moon despite the poor reviews and give the go ahead for BD.

I think Catherine Hardwicke knows what we want to see and feel in the films. She ‘gets it’. Summit, bring her back to direct Breaking Dawn.
