David Yates, the guy who has done the last few Harry Potters and beautifully transferred the books to the screen. And while they are at it, I wish they would consider Steve Kloves for doing the screenplay. Whoever did the screenplay for the first Twilight left much to be desired.

I’d like to see New Moon before I make a comment.

I thought Breaking Dawn was already green light-ed… Was that just a rumor that I took as fact?

There has never been an official statement from Summit regarding Breaking Dawn. At this point everything is just speculation.

If New Moon turns out to be as good as it appears, I would say Chris Weitz. It looks like he’s done a great job with the movie and I really like his demeanor & approach as a director.

I am with Stephenie, I think I would like to see New Moon,
    and Eclipse before deciding.

I, too, would like to see the next two installments before weighing in. I will say, though, that what I’ve seen on NM looks gorgeous. I also appreciate the respect Chris Weitz shows to the saga. He shows a clear respect for the story, the fans, and for Stephenie. So, unless NM falls face down, I think I’ll likely lean toward Chris Weitz.

I think I agree with the others that want to wait to see how Chris’ version comes out. the previews look true to the book so I am leaning towards Chris but we will have to wait and see

I agree, that it would be nice to see the first two films before making a call. From what I can tell, everyone seemed to love working with Chris. I am a total fan of his now after listening to his interviews, and listening to the cast talk about him.

If they are going to make it, I imagine they’ll need to make a decision before Eclipse is finished and released.

I didn’t mean the first two films. I mean New Moon and Eclipse (the 2nd and 3rd film).

To be honest, I don’t really care…I’m sure whom ever they decide on will do a wonderful job. I can’t complain about Twilight, saw it in the theatre 4 times, I sure I’ll do my part to support New Moon as well. All I care about is that someone gets the job and makes the movie! :)

I would like to see New Moon first and than see how Eclipse turns out before i take a vote . Chris Weitz did an amazing job with the Wolf so i’m leaning towards him but undecided yet.

I wonder if they have a screen writer yet. There was a comment Rosenberg made in a recent interview that gave me the impression that maybe she would be passing on Breaking Dawn.

Like most of you, I don’t yet have an opinion about the director without seeing at least New Moon. It will need someone with vision and creativity. This will be the hardest to do successfully, in my opinion.

I think Chris would be a good canidate to do breaking dawn. but I want to see New Moon before I could give a definite answer. From the clips I have seen though I think he would do a good job.

Peter Jackson- director of Lord of the Rings and King Kong. I think he’d make the movie look and feel like the book.

You know, I have to say that I’m surprised to see that none of the comments before me suggested that Breaking Dawn should go to Catherine Hardwicke. I remember about a year ago, these pages were full of rants about how unfair it was that Catherine didn’t get New Moon. Then she didn’t get Eclipse either. I totally expected when I opened this up to read comments this afternoon I’d see at least one vote for Ms. Hardwicke…

Having said that, I’m relieved — I loved Twilight, paid to see it in a theatre more times than I care to admit as a 33 year old mom… but it the film was so full of faults, I was one of the few that was relieved Ms. Hardwicke didn’t get a second shot.

I’m glad that Summit is finally giving the Saga all the attention (and financial support) it deserves. I’m sure anyone of the suggestions would be excellent – although as much as I love Tim Burton, I think it would make the 4th film soooo different, it wouldn’t really have much continuity :)

I am with Stephenie, I think I would like to see New Moon,
and Eclipse before deciding. But I am also with Kate Lawson, I wish they would get someone else for the
screenplay. Melissa is ruining these for me.

I kindly disagree with the Peter Jackson suggestion.

Again, I don’t think they can wait for Eclipse before making a directing decision, can they? Doesn’t that put the production of the film, which we don’t know will happen, too far into the future for our non-aging cast? Plus, if it’s going to be made, I’m sure they’ll want to get it done and get it over with. I think many of them are ready to move on – God Bless ‘em.

I’ve always voted for Guillermo del Toro, but I’m not sure I see him for Breaking Dawn. How about Jane Campion? She certainly can make a great PG-rated romance. Loved Bright Star. Love Jane Campion.

I would like to see the next two movies before I make a decision. It seems that Chris Weiz and David Slade followed the books more closely than Catherine Hardwicke. I did like some of the suggestion of David Yates, he did a good job directing HP movies. I am glad Catherine bowed out of the next movie, she did not produce a great movie and I think if she did New Moon it would not have the intensity and stunning visuals that Chris Weiz put into the movie.

Please let it be the Pans Labrynth guy. NOT CHRIS WEITZ. He ruined New Moon. Sorry.

    N…O on Chris Weitz.

    03. Nov, 2009

how does one know he ruined New Moon when one hasn’t seen it? That’s the power of positive thinking for you! Everything I’ve seen looks 100 times better than Twilight was. I liked Twilight, but it was NOT done justice, even with the low budget it had. Doing the story justice had nothing to do with budget and big sets, it had to do with dialogue and story set up, and IMO that was all Catherine’s lack of judgment.

Who are Anthony and mark? And why are they posting on the TwilightMOMS site? I ask because I’ve never seen them post before, and they both came with strong reactions against Chris W without any explanations. “He ruined New Moon?” Please. Explain.

    Explanations, gentleman?

As of right now, I’m leaning towards Chris Weitz. Nothing but love for Catherine Hardwicke, and I know we’ve yet to see even a glimpse of David Slade’s work, but there’s something about Chris. He’s definitely won me over. With as much CG that’s going to be involved in Breaking Dawn I really think Chris is our man.

I get the impression that they are waiting for the fans to show their support before they announce BD. Remember how we stormed the theatres for TW, partially in hopes they would green light New Moon? I don’t think they are going to give us everything at once. Financially, it’s better to keep us hoping and wishing. Other than making sure it is still a financially viable–BD has a lot of other little details to iron out if it is to transfer to film. Picking the right director will be of paramount importance.

(I wonder if anyone will bother to read this far down?)

I hope a woman directs BD – there’s so much about family and motherhood in the story that the director will need to be sensitive to.

Oh, but I just want to obsess about NM right now! 16 days!!!!!

From what I’ve seen and heard about Mr. Weitz I’m prone to say him right now. I love his demeanor and how he has tried so hard to stay true to the books….

BD will be the hardest to film due to Nessie’s growing spurts and the length of the novel. I hope they do film it sooner than later since it’s probably hard to fit the Cullens, wolves and Volturis’ schedules. I would think for the final film you’d want all the same actors / actresses again. Maybe Stephenie M. will get a hand in choosing only time will tell.

I have to say that I see the logic Summit has used in choosing different directors. Catherine was good for the first one because it dealt with this first love. Though, I was dissapointed originally that many things I felt were important were not in the movie. What I have seen so far of New Moon is very exciting! The look of the film is very different. I think Chris got much more out of his actors this go around (or maybe they have had more time to develop the characters more true to book). And what he did with the meeting of the Volturi is excellent. I see the logic in picking David Spade for Eclipse because of the gorry nature of the battle. I disagree with all but one of those that were named to directed BD. Breaking Dawn is NOT a graphic novel, HELLO! The first third of the book is romance and motherhood. The second part is heartbreak ~ Jacob and Edwards. And the last part is an awaking for Bella ~ waking up the person who she really is and fighting for her family. I think Chris Weitz has already tackled all three of these situations in New Moon. He would be my pick for Breaking Dawn.

AND NOW FOR SOME BEGGING (I ain’t to proud to beg)…PLEASE, OH PLEASE, SUMMIT, FOR ALL THAT WE LOVE OF BELLA, EDWARD, JACOB, ALICE, JASPER, EMMETTE, ROSALIE, CARLISE, ESME, CHARLIE, BILLY, RENESME, THE WOLF PACK, THE VOLTURI, THE HUMANS (well, maybe not Mike Newton and Jessica…they really are annoying!), J. JENKS, THE ROMANIAN VAMPIRES, ALL THE VAMPIRE FRIENDS, THE ISLE, THE WEDDING…PLEASE, OH PLEASE MAKE BREAKING DAWN! FINISH WHAT YOU STARTED!!!

RIght now, I would like Chris to direct Breaking Dawn. Hopefully that doesn’t change after I see New Moon. I would like to see a different person do the screen play. I’m really hoping the dialog is better in new Moon because I thought alot was missing in Twilight. I’m also really hoping they do decide to break Breaking dawn up into two movies. I think the first movie should end right after Bella has Reneesme. Then the next one should start with her waking up as a vampire and finish with the Vulturi. The book is too long not to have two movies. But if I had to choose between one movie with the original actors or two movies with different ones. I’d rather have one movie.

I’ve been seeing ppl talking about Tim Burton directing “Breaking Dawn”, and I have to say, the idea chills me to the core. I love the story that Stephenie Meyer wrote, and with a director like Burton at the helm, I don’t know if the end result be even remotely recognizable. Please don’t let that be true.

    10. Nov, 2009

I know Tim Burton scares some people, but his movie Big Fish was so touching, really should see it and he also has experiance with cgi.I think the most important thing is to replace Melissa Rosenberg as screen writer, unless she brought it up a notch on NM and Eclipse .

  33. Hila

    10. Nov, 2009

OK but what I would love to see for BD ,to break it up into 3 parts like the book, let Catherine Hardwicke have a crack at it with a big budget and all the romance ,remember she’s responsible for Rob being Edward.Chris Weitz gets Jacob’s point of view, the part with the most humor that Chris seems to be a natural at.Then u have an old fashion intermission for human needs and finish up with David Spade or Cameron and

  34. Hila

    10. Nov, 2009

So to sum up one long movie 3 directors,an intermission(this all worked for Gone With the Wind)but here’s the angle I’d like to see , we view most of the third part through Bella’s eyes meaning camera vantage point.Partly because It would seem like it when she awakens to seeing everything through vampire eyes, but also we can imagine that we are Bella but u have to have the moment with Alice & Bella when she looks into the mirror after transformation so we can see her in all her glory

Everyone says Chris becasue of the limited amount of trailer footage. I say Peter Jackson. Chris is great with CGI, but only peter could have an entirely real character be CGI. There is no other way to produce the fast growing Renesme without CGi, and that could be done by Peter

I just saw New Mon and I have to say Chris did a great job with it compared to the first movie, Twilight. So, I would vote Chris in this case of making Breaking Dawn. You saw just how much great work he put into this movie and how much improvement the actors achieved under his direction. Really, a great job.
