Summit’s Statement on New Moon Piracy Case

Posted on 11. Dec, 2009 by in News

Summit has issued this statement concerning the woman that was arrested for taping New Moon.  All charges against her have been dropped.

“In regards to the situation with Samantha Tumpach, we applaud Muvico for upholding the zero tolerance policy on piracy when the incident occurred at their theater in Rosemont, IL.  The pirating of films is a very serious issue and we all need to remain vigilant to protect the art of film and the myriad of businesses that the film industry supports.  We believe that the attention that this incident has drawn, has served as a reminder to us all that any form of film piracy, or perceived piracy, will be treated with the utmost seriousness.  Summit is pleased that all charges against Ms. Tumpach have been dropped and appreciate the efforts of the police and the prosecutors in this outcome.”

That’s ridiculous! She taped 3 minutes!! There’s someone who has taped the entire movie! Seriously, Good Job. Arrest the person who accidentally taped 3 minutes of the movie. It’s good the charges have been dropped.

Ronnie—if you read the statement, it says at the end that Summit is pleased that all charges were dropped.

Yeah, she should sue them and get money she doesn’t deserve. Nice. And P.S. it’s impolite to use all caps when you type.

I’m glad they dropped the charges. But I mean everyone knows you aren’t suppose to have video cameras in the theater.

Whether you tape one minute or the whole movie… it’s against the law. If you think the law sucks, then fight to change it. What if you made a product (were and artist maybe)? Would you be happy that someone was copying it and or selling a crappy version of it. Probably not.

I for one, as a viewer in the movie theater am so annoyed with people using their phones for taping. It’s disruptive and distracting. If it’s the law then it doesn’t matter how much is taped. It’s common decency if you’ve never been taught that. If you let it slide once then more people will attempt it ’cause that’s how some people are and that’s the point of the whole incident. It sucks that we have to all be babysat now when we watch movies and this is the reason why.

I for one love being able to buy the DVD when it comes out and watch it then. I just don’t get the desire to do something untrustworthy/law breaking, posting it online and what?? Getting what for it?? Great for you??

    Anyway, good job Summit.
