Twilight-inspired reality show based in Forks?

This was one of the odder bits of Twilight-related news I came across lately: An LA producer is thinking about filming a reality show in Forks, WA. From MTV:

Producer Zig Gauthier told The Wrap that the goal of the as-yet untitled series is “to peel back another layer of the onion that is Forks and see what the real people there are like.” And by real, he means people who aren’t vampires or werewolves (bummer!).

“We’re not going up there looking to cast people who have claims to the supernatural,” Zig explained. “We want people who have a true connection to the community. We want to avoid people with outlandish claims.”

The exact premise of the show has yet to be decided, with Zig saying he wants to hold off until casting is complete and potential networks have had a chance to throw in their two cents. Potential concepts could include a “Laguna Beach”-type series where cameras follow a group of Forks high schoolers or something more family focused a la “The Real Housewives.”

The Peninsula Daily News has an article here talking more about the casting calls and noting that the idea to hold a series in Forks is among the producer’s top four choices of projects.

What do you think? Would you watch a Forks-based reality show? Or do you think it’s just the supernatural elements that make Forks appealing?

I would be really surprise if the Forks community would go with this. I was in Forks this spring and talked to some of the business and Chamber of Commerce employees and even though many love the books and like the new tourism, they still want to keep the town theirs and not have it become a kitchy tourist town and be constantly under the spotlight. The town is still trying to figure out “Twilighters” and what they want and how to cater to us and not have their town destroyed in all the hype that is Twilight.

Just my opinion and what I have heard from people while I was there.

I think this is a terrible idea – I’m not a fan of reality shows, so I’m obviously not their target demographic, but I have been to Forks and I hate the idea of it becoming fodder for MTV cameras. It’s a real town, with real people, and my husband and I liked it so much that we actually looked at real estate! But it just wouldn’t be the same if it became some sort of melodramatic pseudo-reality show, and I think overall it would hurt the town.

I grew up in Forks myself. I have family that still live there. Some of the younger generation love they hype of Twilight, however, Forks has it’s own character. Its a logging town, they have their own history, their own traditions. Eventually all the Twilighters will fade out, and this little town will go back to how it always was. I would be very dissapointed if they chose to film this series there. I don’t think they could get the whole town on board and as small as Forks it, that would be a must in order for it to do well.
