Due to the crazy holiday season that is upon us we will not be having a book of the month for December. If you missed any of our outstanding books during 2009 this would be a great month to get caught up! You can see all the books we’ve read this year here.
We have some really exciting changes planned for our book of the month in 2010. To give you a head start on all these changes here are the books that we will be spotlighting in January:
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Next to the exhortation at the beginning of Moby-Dick, “Call me Ishmael,” the first sentence of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice must be among the most quoted in literature. And certainly what Melville did for whaling Austen does for marriage–tracing the intricacies (not to mention the economics) of 19th-century British mating rituals with a sure hand and an unblinking eye. As usual, Austen trains her sights on a country village and a few families–in this case, the Bennets, the Philips, and the Lucases. Into their midst comes Mr. Bingley, a single man of good fortune, and his friend, Mr. Darcy, who is even richer. Mrs. Bennet, who married above her station, sees their arrival as an opportunity to marry off at least one of her five daughters.
‘It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains.’ So begins Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, an expanded edition of the beloved Jane Austen novel featuring all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie mayhem. As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she’s soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers and even more violent sparring on the blood-soaked battlefield as Elizabeth wages war against hordes of flesh-eating undead. Can she vanquish the spawn of Satan? And overcome the social prejudices of the class-conscious landed gentry? Complete with romance, heartbreak, swordfights, cannibalism, and thousands of rotting corpses, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies transforms a masterpiece of world literature into something you’d actually want to read.
The Lonely Hearts Club by Elizabeth Eulberg
Penny is sick of boys and sick of dating. So she vows: no more. It’s a personal choice. . .and, of course, soon everyone wants to know about it. And a few other girls are inspired. A movement is born: The Lonely Hearts Club (named after the band from Sgt. Pepper). Penny is suddenly known for her nondating ways . . . which is too bad, because there’s this certain boy she can’t help but like. . . .
You can order each of these books from the TwilightMOMS Amazon store by clicking on the book’s title. Elizabeth’s book The Lonely Hearts Club isn’t out until December 29th but you can pre-order it now. (Can’t wait to read that one! As a single TM I can so relate to the nondating club
)

Thanks for posting this, Amy!
I read P&P 2 summers ago. Just this past week I started reading P&P&Zombies and it is quite amusing!
We will also have a chat in January with the author of The Loney Hearts Club, Elizabeth Eulberg.
I hope everyone likes the new and improved Book of the month coming in January!
