Deadline Hollywood reporting Breaking Dawn to be two films

Posted on 12. Feb, 2010 by in News

Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood is reporting that she’s received confirmation that Breaking Dawn will be made into two movies:

I have this from several sources, and it’s definitive. Filming on the back-to-back movies would begin in mid-October, and Summit Entertainment is looking at “high end” directors.

Although this story is being picked up by various outlets, Summit is still officially saying that no decision has been made.”

As much as I was hoping for a new screen writter..I am so excited for this movie. BD was my favorite book in the saga..even though it seems to be a either love it or hate it with some people. (I have to stay on this site and not read negitive comments on other sites that like to bash on Stephanie for BD)
Movie one: Wedding, “honeymoon” and the birth in all its original detail(please keep it true to the book)
Movie two: Bella awakes to her new life
And most importanly…focus on Bella and Edward. the movies have lost sight of the love affair, to focus too much on other aspects(Jacob) Too much important dialog has been missed, we need to see that Bella is the love of Edwards life and all the consequences!

Oooh! I like that idea, Becca! That would be the PERFECT way to split up the two movies!!! I feel the suspense just THINKING about it!!!

Yay for Breaking Dawn: The Movie. :)

I totally agree, with where the split should be and that there should be more on the love between Edward and Bella, which was the key to the whole series.

Becca, that’s excatly how I felt when I read the book ( film 2-bella wakes up). And yes, bring on the romance like in Twilight, that’s why the fans fell in love with the series. Ohh, and totallly agree keep it true for the wedding, honeymoon and birth.
I’d also love to see the almost fight with the Volturi scene come to life with all the characters involved. Amazing book, I loved it!!!

totally agree – wish Summit could hear what we have to see.

They need to continue the love and romance – thats what this story is all about.

I agree, they should do the wedding, honeymoon and birth in the first movie, and the new Bella/Edward in the second.

They just can’t possibly put all this is one movie and do it right.

So glad we have this site…long live Twilight Moms, :) where we are all supported. Wish we could produce this movie. lol Guess this is the only was we have to let Summit know how we feel.

Whoohoo!! Great news :) I like the sound of “high-end director”…that would boost my confidence in the movie. A new screenwriter would be nice as well… as much as I like twilight and new moon, they still could’ve been so much better with a different screenwriter.

I’m just wondering if they really are going to stay true to the book or if they will alter the end scene somehow.

I’ve said from the beginning that someone really needed to die in that scene–someone in the family, but I could never choose who should go because they’re all paired up. Maybe Leah Clearwater should get the axe in the movie version. As much as I love Twilight, I really wouldn’t mind if they changed elements like that to add emotion. I DO mind when they change romantic emphasis. That’s why we’re addicted. I just hope that it’s a big-budget, rated R, bloody and sexy. Is that so much to ask?

Hate to say I told you so but….Two movies is exactly right!!! BD is after all two books in one…
I can’t wait to see how the bring Reneesme to life.

I am with you Bella1211…..big budget, rated R, bloody and sexy and grown up…with all the romance of the books

It sounds to me that they already cut a lot of the important scenes between Bella and Edward out of Eclipse (hense the bedroom scene.). So it wouldn’t surprise me if they don’t stay true to the book for Breaking Dawn.

The movies will not be rated R for two reasons-
    1. They would alienate a large part of their target audience.
    2. Stephenie Meyer specifically stated that they had to be non-R rated when she sold the rights to the books.

AmyO – Thank you. Stephenie Meyer is Mormon and their faith doesn’t allow for the watching of R rated movies. While I want the films to be as true to the book as possible I think it is very important that a certain level of respect is shown for Stephenie’s faith.

All of the ideas listed here are great! Especially where to split the two movies. I look forward to more info in the future. =)

Julie- are you sure there is no bedroom scene in Eclipse? if not…what the ____ were they thinking?!!

Well Laurie I am just basing this off of the script that got leaked to the internet. That the “leg hitch” sceen in Edwards bedroom was left out. That was my favorite part of the book by the way! I hope that that script was not the real or final version and they kept the romance in.

I’m not sure if I’m in agreement with all of you on 2 movies for BD. I think it could be prolonging the finality of the series. Some may say “enough already and end this”! I love the Twilight Series and love this site. But, I think they could do BD in one movie but just longer; say 3 hours. I felt when reading BD there are definitely things that could be shortened oh, like the whole birthing scene and other scenes that may not hold as much relevance. BD was not my “fav.” in the series, however I do want to see it on the big screen. I just don’t know if I can bear to wait for a 5th film.

New screen writer, please?! Different directors are used for each one, so why not replace Melissa as well for a change? I do wish Summit would request some feed-back and at least consider what we desire to see in these movies (romance emphasis between E and B just for starters). Also, I feel Nessie needs to be portrayed by a real actress at some point and then, perhaps CGI else where. I’m thinking with the budget they now have they can most definitely make this movie (or movies) fantastically believable!
