MTV: Summit is still deciding if Breaking Dawn will be 3-D

Posted on 12. Jul, 2010 by in News

MTV has a new article about Summit’s ongoing discussions regarding the possibility of Breaking Dawn in 3-D

“That decision has yet to be made,” Summit distribution head Richard Fay told MTV News. “It’s still the source of a discussion.”

While those talks inevitably touch on technological hurdles and monetary interest — owing to the premium-ticket prices that 3-D flicks command — Fay emphasized that the studio is more focused on creative concerns.

“There’s certainly a financial part of the discussion,” he said. “And yes, there’s a certain amount of technology that has to be considered and accounted for. But it really comes down to the creative folks.”

“In any of these roundtables conversations, [Summit CEO] Rob Friedman has always been concerned about the ‘Twilight’ patron,” Fay added. “His concern is always the people that come in to see this movie. He doesn’t want to turn them off or offend. That’s why it’s a creative decision. A big factor is the perception of our audience. What are their feelings going to be? If it lends itself to being a better movie because of 3-D, then that’s the technology we’ll use.”

Since Summit is interested in fans’ opinions, we’re wondering how would you feel about Breaking Dawn in 3-D?

I don’t see anything in the BD story that would be enhanced by 3D. NOt as written anyway. No major battles, only a wedding, a honeymoon, pregnancy and Bella changing. The Volturi confrontation will most likely be turned into more of a fight for dramatic purposes, I’m guessing, but still. 3d only makes sense when it’s the right kind of movie. For Eclipse, it might have sense with the fight scenes. I just don’t see it with BD. What, are we going to have feathers floating past us on Isle Esme?? Nah, that’s just not necessary.

i think it should be in 3D, because it will be cooler. but i think that there should be a normal version without 3D

I think the second half would be cool. At first I didn’t like the idea, but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. It would be like seeing the world through Bellas new eyes. And it would be really cool to see the abilities of all the new vamps in 3D. Plus, if you don’t want to watch it in 3D, you don’t have to… Our theater doesn’t even offer 3D, but we still get all the same movies…. I would definitely make the hour drive to watch this in 3D though!

NO absoultly not. certain movies yest sure KIDS CARTOON movies are great in 3D not BD there is no reason for it to be in 3D to be honest if they put it in 3D i will not be seeing it it will totaly kill me in all ways possiable but this isone movie that i think may acutally hurt the movie itself if its in 3D

I was going to write out my opinion, but Desirea’s was EXACTLY like mine. Even the hour drive to see 3D. LOL.

I don’t see anything in the BD story that would be enhanced by 3D. I think Eclipse would of been the better choice to have been in 3D. Just sounds like another way to squeeze more money out of the fans.

I can see the possiblity of doing the second half in 3D, but I would not watch it 3D. And I don’t think it would really add anything to the second part. There are other ways to let the viewer ‘see’ how dfferent Bella’s vision its, if that is even necessary. I would prefer to have the money spent on getting other things done the best possible way. I think that would be more satisfing to more of the fans than having any 3D.

Please no 3D… it makes me sick.

To be honest, I don’t see any reason for BD to be in 3D. It’s overkill and kind of stupid, imo. I think 3D is fine for animated films and perhaps some action films where things are blowing up all over the place, but I really hope Summit decides against it.

    I vote no 3D!
Not at all necessary. May even be too distracting to what I am certain will be Melissa’s best work yet!
(We will already be spending all available cash on 2D.) (Eclipse: 9 times and counting!!)

No 3D! Spend that cash on better wigs, LOL!

My only question is Why?! Why does EVERY movie now have to be in 3D? I guess I’m just old. It’s the only explanation I’ve been able to come up with for why I don’t think that EVERY movie needs to be in 3D….

PLEASE SUMMIT NOOOOOOOO! Many of us get sick literally from 3D movies. You don’t wanna bunch of fans throwing up do ya?
3D is for cartoons and such, it doesn’t make any sense with this type of film. Just have a nice High Definition film or something, not the 3D…. it makes it sound like a kid movie if you do.Don’t waste the money on it, it can be well spent on hair/ makeup, the sets, extras in the movie, etc.

Hey fellow twilightmoms, is there a way to actually get this message that the majority of us don’t want 3D??? I wish summit would actually put out their own poll so we can all vote.

Well, first of all let me point out that if 3D movies make you sick, the studio always puts out a non-3D version of the movie. It was that way with Avatar and with Toy Story, so either way you’d have the choice of how you wanted to see it.

My opinion is that it should have been done with Eclipse. The battle scene and fight with Victoria and Edward would have been spectacular in 3D. Honestly, I am with the others who say there is really no content in BD -at least the first part-that warrants 3D. However, I think if it were very carefully used once Bella is changed in order to show her perspective as a vampire…that could be really cool! They would have to be super careful to make it legitimate and not cheesy or over the top. But truthfully, it really doesn’t matter, I’ll be there to see it one way or the other. But if they want repeat tickets sales, it better be good.

I LOVED the first two Twilight movies and I’ve read the books countless times now, however after seeing Eclipse I personally feel like Summit need to focus more on keeping the substance of the story instead of trying to over glam the action, and as ‘ac42′ said, there’s no real need for 3D with the Breaking Dawn book anyway. I liked Eclipse, but it didn’t maintain the passion and real essence of the story like the first film definitely did. I’m definitely a HUGE twilight fan, and me and my fellow twi-hard friends agree that Summit need to look at pleasing the millions of folks that already love the books instead of trying to reach out to an even bigger, broader ordiance. In Eclipse I missed some of the long melodramatic scenes and hearing Bella’s thoughts and feelings, after all, the books are mostly through Bella’s eyes, but I don’t think that’s lavish enough for Summit.

absolutely not ! If they want to spend more money, make the movies longer to include everything necessary to wrap up this FANtastic movie Saga !

    12. Jul, 2010

I hope not. I find 3d to be very distracting and I cannot imagine anything in Breaking Dawn that needs to be enhanced with bells and whistles. After all, it is a love story.

Huge Twilight Fan, and I really see no reason for BD to be in 3D! I think 3D is just the fad of the moment and there is really no reason to make BD with it. We do not need a bloddy birth scene jumping off the screen at as. Focus on the stroy, and keep the cheese down Summit! I have liked all three, and Eclipse might be my favorite movie so far of the three, keep the 3D out!

  21. Bridget O.

    12. Jul, 2010

Please, no 3D!!! Ticket prices are costly and fans may not be able to watch the movie as many times if it is in 3D. The focus should be on developing a quality movie, not on 3D effects.

    NO NO NO NO NO…

I think 3D would be annoying, pathetic and cheesy. There is absolutely no reason for it.

I have spent hundreds of dollars (as most moms here have) to take my daughters to multiple showings of the 3 already-released Twilight films. I would be much less likely to take them multiple times if the BD movies are in 3D.

    No, please, no.

After I went to the midnight release showing of Eclipse, I saw it a few days later in IMAX and that was too much. Breaking Dawn of all the books has the most sensitive content and to sensationalize it by making it in 3D will lose more fans than it will bring in. Especially, the long time diehard TwiHard TwiMoms. I would suggest that Summit think long and hard about this, and then decide against it.

No 3-D please…makes my head hurt…I wouldn’t be able to sit and watch it. There aren’t any 3-D worthy scenes in this story anyway.

It costs more and the story doesn’ call for it. Atleast in the first part. If it’s ain’t broken then don’t fix it. What are we supposed to be excited for? Bella walking down the isle in 3D? I vote NO.

  28. Waraised

    13. Jul, 2010

I vote NO. Wearing those goofy 3D glasses to watch BD would not allow me to immerse myself in the story. I don’t even think they are appropriate for the 2nd half. Watching Edward and Bella be intimate as vampires with 3D goggles on, no way!

  29. anjsmom

    13. Jul, 2010

No. I don’t like 3D movies. The glasses give me a headache and I really don’t see the 3D anyway. So I vote NO!!! I hope if they do decide to do 3D, they also offer 2D like most of the big 3D movie have.

  30. Metzgirl

    13. Jul, 2010

NO! Please do not add necessary expense and motion-illness causing frivolities to the movie! I agree with Jezzabelle, if you feel the next to spend extra money make the movies more involved and include as much of the book as possible!

  32. Stephanie

    13. Jul, 2010

No 3-D, puhleeeeeeese! BD should not be treated like a superhero action movie or child’s cartoon flick! Come on, Summit. Stop going with the fads and just give the fans a well made movie to do the book justice! THAT’S where the extra money and creativity should be spent!!!

  33. Patti

    13. Jul, 2010

No on 3-D. If there was an option to view it at a theater without 3-D, I would drive the distance to view it. Leave 3-D to children’s cartoons.

  34. Kristen

    13. Jul, 2010

No 3-D!!!!! I really think the whole 3-D kick that all of these movie production companies are doing with their movies is kind of lame. I suppose 3-D can be done tastefully like it was with Avatar. Though I don’t think that this Saga should have any 3-D. Even though the movies have become huge, there is still a feeling of a indie type film. I just don’t think that most of the fans will want 3-D.

  35. Ness

    14. Jul, 2010

I don’t think BD would be better with 3D so I hope they don’t go that route.

Please don’t! B/D is not ment for 3D. Its ment for things that blow up objecks comeing at you. this is not what B/D is about. But if you feel the need to do some thing Cool,
