Nikki Reed & Hanson – Two of My Favorite Things

Posted on 12. Nov, 2010 by in News

I noticed yesterday that Nikki had updated her personal blog to talk about being a fan of Hanson and her plans to see them in concert this weekend. I debated how to post about this without coming off as, shall I say, a bit of a fan girl? While I have developed a bit of a girl crush on Nikki over the last couple years (she’s too sweet not to adore), I have been a Hanson fan since the late 90s. So the thought of Nikki and Hanson together in one venue – not to mention the fact that it’s about 30 minutes away from where I used to live – is nearly enough to make my head explode.

Nikki’s blog post basically describes how she recently came across Hanson’s music, realized how amazing they are and decided to write them a fan letter (how cute is that!?), and was then invited to one of their concerts. Here’s what she had to say about Hanson:

About five months ago I was surfing the internet, and somehow came across the music video for Hanson’s new song, “Thinking ‘Bout Somethin’”. (Side note: doesn’t it feel wrong to write a title with so many abbreviations?) I was instantly blown away. I must have watched it ten times in a row. It wasn’t just their obvious talent (i.e. their voices/songwriting ability/skills with multiple instruments) that got me, it was the subtle details throughout the video incorporating their sense of humor that I feel makes them such unique artists. Their unwavering devotion to their positive lyrics is a testament to their confidence. It’s refreshing to see young, talented musicians showcasing their passion for their craft in such an openly positive way. Giving off the impression that they don’t need to be tortured souls to make good art is bold in a time in the world when so much is going wrong. That along with the location choice and production design of the video is what really captivated me. Watching a video like that just makes you want to smile! So what did I do next? I wrote them a letter… a fan letter to be exact.

Go here to read the rest of her post about anxiously waiting for a response from Hanson. The end result is that she’s flying to Virginia to see Hanson this weekend and I’m ridiculously jealous of the whole scenario. I also recommend that you check out Hanson’s music – they’re not the MMMBop kids from the 90s that you may remember, and Nikki’s description of their latest music and video is spot on. You can visit their website here and watch the video for “Thinking ‘Bout Somethin’” that Nikki discussed here.

She didn’t mention that the Hanson video is a remake of the Ray Charles scene from The Blues Brothers movie. That’s my favorite part.
