Jackson Rathbone’s ‘Girlfriend’ Needs Your Help

Posted on 01. Feb, 2011 by in News

“Break into the movie business.” “Your child can be a star.” You’ve all seen the spam e-mails heard the commercials: “we will be in your town this weekend … looking for talent.” Now finally we TwilightMOMS have a way to get into the movie business!! Well sort of …

As some of you have heard Jackson Rathbone has been working for the past few years on an indie film called Girlfriend starring Shannon Woodward and Evan Snieder. The synopsis of the movie is, according to IMDB: “A young man with Down’s Syndrome romantically pursues a small town single mom who is still mixed up with her volatile ex-boyfriend.”

The movie was all the rage at the Toronto Film Festival, but despite great reviews and word of mouth, they haven’t been able to get the movie picked up for wider release. This is where we can help – the producers have created a fundraising page!

Now I know some of you are thinking: a fundraising page for a movie? What do they need my money for? Most of the films that are released every weekend at your local megaplex movie theater are produced by large production companies (Warner Brothers, MGM, Disney, etc). These companies have major marketing teams to get the word out with ad campaigns, big name stars, interviews on TV shows – there is an entire army at work behind each film.

Girlfriend is an “indie” film – which means it’s independent; it was made by people without the big corporate machine behind it creating all the publicity for the film and getting to a screen near you. So the producers are asking us to help spread the word and support the film any way we can! Tweet about it, post it on Facebook, talk it up to your friends. And if you have a few dollars to spare they have planned some great giveaways for your investment!

For example, if you donate $10 you get a thank you on the web page. For $20 you get a link to exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of filming and 100 Monkeys scoring the film. For those with deeper pockets, for $500 you can be a PA for a day on their next movie!! This includes a credit in the film and on IMDB … it is a lot of money but if you have it and ever dreamed of working in movies, this is a great way to get a feel for the action! The full list of items available are on the Girlfriend fundraising page.

Their fundraising goal is $110,000, and they’ve currently raised just over $11,000 with 55 days left to go in the campaign. Let’s show Jackson and the 100 Monkeys some love!

(Thanks to our Kara O. for writing up this fantastic post :) )

Thanks Kara for posting this on the site. I put some information about this fundraiser in the forum with links to different articles that talk about funding an indie project.

They have added the perk of being a producer for the movie. But before you go running to take your money out of the bank, the cost is $25k. You do get your name in the end credits and on imdb….might be something for a group of people to do, if they really want.
