As Stephenie Meyer has announced, filming for her next book-to-movie project, The Host, begins Monday, Feb 13th. Film locations will be Louisiana and New Mexico with Andrew Niccol directing. Niccol, who also wrote the screenplay for The Host movie, is best known for his movies Gattaca and The Truman Show.
The intention is for this to be the first movie in a sci-fi trilogy according to an article in The Guardian UK:
Meyer sees The Host as the first in a trilogy. Likewise, the movie is being set up along similar lines. With the Twilight series theoretically coming to an end with the release of November’s Breaking Dawn Part Two, Hollywood will be hoping The Host can manifest itself as the first chapter of a new blockbuster franchise.
Stephenie has long had book 2, The Soul, and book 3, The Seeker, on the back burner while her involvement in The Twilight Saga films and indy film, Austenland, kept her plenty busy. The most recent update on the status of the 2nd installment of The Host series came March 2011 in an interview with USA Today. Answering questions from fans who won a contest to meet her, Stephenie responded as to the progress of the second book saying, “I have the outline written and the first two chapters. I need to get on it.”
Later this year, Stephenie plans to finally head home in May, when all the movie filming is out of the way. It’s probably safe to say she’ll be thrilled spending lots of time in a warm climate with her family… and her computer keyboard. ;)
The Host movie is currently listed to premiere 29 March 2013 in the US.
