Irish Film & Television Network reports that Sandra Murphy, an Irish designer, now working out of New York, was asked to send some of her creations for use in the anticipated movie The Host.
Irish designer Sandra Murphy has been chosen to supply the costumes for Saoirse Ronan’s upcoming alien film ‘The Host’. Murphy, originally from County Clare and now based in New York, sent around 40 pieces to the costume department.Murphy was contacted in February from what she refers to as “Hollywood”, and admits she is “hugely proud just knowing that my designs were sought for consideration”. It is not yet known how many of Murphy’s designs will make the final cut, however lead actress Saoirse Ronan (The Way Back) and Hollywood star Diane Kruger (Inglorious Basterds) are expected to be kitted out in the vintage-inspired designs.
Sandra Murphy’s designs have a great vintage feel to them and may give us a bit of a glimpse into the over all style they are going for in the movie. I’ve noticed Andrew Niccol’s films, like In Time, Gattaca, and The Truman Show have a unique way of combining vintage & futuristic elements, giving the sets and characters a very sleek and classy look that enhance the viewing experience. The viewer knows right away that the world being portrayed on screen is in the future, but the vintage touches in costume, hair, and set design ground his films in a way that makes that world feel familiar and real.
