Congratulations to Kelly (comment #28) for winning last week’s giveaway of I AM WOLF by Joanne Buchanan!

*We have a new giveaway for you this week:

THE TAKER by Alma Katsu

It has been a long time since I’ve read a book that continued to haunt me days after finishing it. This is a very dark tale about unrequited love, and of immortality at a heavy price.

This debut novel, the first in a series of three, is not YA though the primary characters are teenage to young adults. The tragic subject matter is emotionally compelling and deeply thought provoking. Although this book is heavy and dark, the series becomes lighter and more romantic as it continues. The Taker will have you reaching out to find others who have read it with that overwhelming need to discuss it all!

“Alchemy and love prove a volatile mix in Katsu’s vividly imagined first novel, which toggles between the present and the past. While working the graveyard shift at a rural Maine hospital, Dr. Luke Findley discovers that patient Lanny McIlvrae has miraculous self-healing powers. Lanny then relates the incredible tale of her life: sent packing to Boston by her family in 1817 to give birth to her illegitimate child, she fell in with the entourage of Count Adair, a centuries-old alchemist who saved her life with an elixir of immortality. Decadent and domineering, Adair took Lanny as his mistress–a role she accepted until Adair’s scheme to use her true love, Jonathan, to perpetuate his unnatural existence forced her to a desperate ruse to thwart his formidable magic powers. Katsu shows considerable skill in rendering a world where Adair’s unspeakable evilness and Lanny’s wild passion make the supernatural seem possible. The result is a novel full of surprises and a powerful evocation of the dark side of romantic love.” Publishers Weekly

Interesting! I have been desiring to get hooked on a new book series. The kind that keeps you up at night because you can’t stop thinking of the characters or plot and haunts you for a time after your done reading. Also, excited that its not Ya ( less restrictions on the details) :) Since reading several novels, twilight, the hunger games, and tiger’s curse, I haven’t loss sleep on any recent books. Love to win a copy :)
